Ochres Royal Launceston Show results…

Basenji Showing
  • Ochre was shown for the first time last weekend by my daughter Olivia… Im truthful enough to say that I am just too fat to do the dogs justice, and they arent performing the best when moving :o:o So much to Olivias pleasure, she has taken over the reins of Ochre...

I need one more Challenge Certificate for Ochre's Australian Ch title, so there was a lot resting on poor Olivias shoulders ;)...

Olivia did a great job showing her, so that she won the Junior bitch class, then she went in for Challenge bitch, but sadly it wasnt to be ... She then had to run off against the junior dog of breed, which she won. This made her eligible for competing in Junior in Group. She performed really well, but didnt win it...

Ochre is a quite hard bitch to show. She doesnt like the cold, so lets it be known to all, that she doesnt want to be there... It was cold, and Olivia had to work pretty hard, to get her to look at least a little like a show dog ;);)...

Then the show on Sunday, again she won the Junior bitch class, then she was awarded Res Ch Bitch, (no points for this though ...), and Runner-Up Best of Breed, (sadly still no points !!!).

We have another 2 shows next weekend, so perhaps that will be her weekend :D:D:D

  • Well done to Ochre and Olivia that must have been an exciting weekend for you. Good luck Ochre and Olivia next weekend I hope its warmer for you :D. My Kia hates it when its too cold she roaches her back and looks miserable.

    Thanks for the congrats…

Yep, know all about the roached back, and that miserable look is really pathetic isnt it, its just not a good look is it ???

Im very proud of both my girls. We looked up the weather forecast earlier... Saturday is expecting, showers and 14 degrees, and Sunday, is rain, and about 11 degrees, I think... There is NO undercover for this weekend either, everybody is out in the glorious rain :D Guess there wont be any title this weekend for Ochre... Maybe Olivia will give her back to me to show, this weekend, I wouldnt blame her :)

  • Well done Saba - and well done Olivia & Ochre!

  • They did geat job :). Good luck to next weekend!
Do you have any pics of Ochre from show?

  • Congratulations to Ochre :)

@evillemon said in How to start showing: @debradownsouth Yes we figured we will wait until he is at least two before we make any decisions on neutering him. I can understand why you might want to neuter a female but a male? Agree you need to wait. Most of the reasons advanced to neuter come from groups with an agenda but without solid science. Generally speaking the health risks of neutering outweigh any benefits and there is no effect on behavior. In my experience, having an intact male Basenji never presented any issues at all. Unless you just let your dog roam free I can't think of a single good reason to do it.

re: "A sanctioned match is important though, I believe new clubs must hold a certain amount of matches in a certain time frame before they're allowed to hold regular dog shows. Sorta like a trial run to make sure the club can do everything needed to run the event and take care of paperwork appropriately. Also already established clubs will hold matches in the evening after the show, and I have a feeling they are a good money maker for the club since they already have all the equipment and everything taken care of for the weekend." This is partly true - a club however in order to maintain it's status as a show giving club has to complete a certain number of components in a given year - a match can be one of them. Do some do it for money - maybe - but I'll tell you from experience that at the end of a show - about the last thing a show giving club is thinking about it's doing more work! we're typically too tired!!!!! In any event a match is good practice for the dogs, the judges and a great way to get your feet wet. You will have a blast.

@tanza: Field Trial is for dogs/bitches that have received their Field Championship in Lure coursing, usually… sometimes it will include Senior Courser titles.. and many times will be a Dual Champion (DC in the front of the dogs name) that stands for Conformation and Field Champion Thanks! :) My first guess was that it had something to do with lure but wasn't sure.

Thank you everyone! Ill look at the book, try to get it. I also took a look at the site. Seems like it will help alots. Thank you ill keep that in mind. Ill have friends and family come over while im working with her and express their opinions of her. I will also keep in touch with my breeder. She doesnt do shows anymore but im sure she can offer up a little information…what is IMO? idk why but i never understood that. lol The show is actually in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It is given off the the Sioux Empire Kennel Club. Ill be working with her non stop until we go to that show. I figured well just see how she does and go from there. She may be good or she may just be pet material. Id like to try either way :)

Well, when Rally had her emergency C-section, they did not "fix" her umbilical hernia but because of where they made the incision it did get rid of hernia. So maybe because they are so easily obliterated by abdominal surgeries they don't include them on the list.
