Lovely boy, I like your blog, I must set one up for my lot!
Thank you for posting the link for the show, it's great to see the overseas basenji's going through their paces.
We are now home what a morning and day. I do not know who is the most tried Jaycee or my husband. I am not even sure if or how many pictures we got or did not. Eli and Jaycee went into ring Steve was trying camera and I had video he traded and what a mess. I am going to down load camera in a little while to see what we got. Well know better next time one camera each and no trading.
Yes Jaycee and Eli did ok for the first time out and of course she got a first place in her class beacuse she was the only one. That is ok with us she still got it there were I think about 20 B's there. Some were so pretty and others were pretty not in same way. Jaycee is really by far more dark red then the ones there today. Poor Jaycee we have always told her to sit for food so Eli was trying to get her to stand and held up treat so what does she do she sit got love her for it. The end there were Jaycee and three others with first place and of course she did not win that round. We could not be any more happy or proud of Eli and Jaycee.
We went to have fun and that we did meet several nice people some even gave us advise and some just looked at us. Jaycee got a new show lead and she did not even poop when she showed but she did have to stop and pee just before she got back to the table. The AKC rep watched Eli and Jaycee and talked with us for awhile that was really nice she was a nice lady.
Jaycee was a good girl never showed her bottom but Jaycee and couple other B's were in season and made the males ugly. There were two males kind of close to Jaycee and they were ready to have it out growling and hair on end and I mean on end. One lady even ask my husband to hold her male B he got really upset at lady when she let go and she and Steven almost got teeth in the arm. No more holding for anyone. One lady said she loved to show her males when females were in season becasue they showed in the ring better.
All in all good day everyone needs a nap when we got into car Jaycee was out like a light. Now I know how to get a B to go to sleep.
Any incorrect spelling or sentences just me today I am one very PROUD MOM of my two and four legged children.

Good to hear Rita Jean.
I have been thinking of y'all all day. I am glad the first show is over and that you met some nice people and got advice.
Next time, Elia and Jaycee will be more relaxed and the time after that even better..I can't wait to see some pictures..sounds like a good day. Congrats..
I've been wondering how they did as well. Sounds like the the first experience went pretty well.
Regarding the sitting…I tend to reinforce standing most of the time and I get the opposite...Zoni never sits. So it's important to mix it up a lot so they get reinforced for both regularly, perhaps standing a little more when he is showing on a slightly more regular basis. If they come up to you a sit without asking, ask them to stand, and vice versa.
Always something that I tell new puppy owners that might be interested in showing or having their pup shown… NEVER teach sit without also teaching stand and teach stand first..ggg for obvious reasons....... Nemo's advise is right on... and I agree, more standing then sitting, especially now since she is well trained for the sitting for food.
Well done Jaycee and Eli, so pleased you had a good day. Sometimes we see dogs over here that sit when they see a treat!
Right on everyone about standing. Here we thought we would never get in sit and now we are going to have to work on "stand". Thanks everyone and it was a good day just had fun most adult B's I had ever seen together cool to see. One lady and her husband have 9 but brought 5 had 4 in show another lady had 3 I do not know from there who had what. Thanks everyone I was just so happy Eli had fun.

Did you not get a catalog?… the show super is Onofrio, so you can go to his site and see the entries and results.
I got the one in mail not sure about what your talking about need help. Just go to the dog show and look it up?
Rita Jean
Hip Hip Hooray for Eli and Jaycee!
Well done, can't wait to see pics

They sell catalogs at the show that has all the dogs entered by breed, with names, age, sire/dam, owners, by breed with what class they are entered in and the armband number. Then you know who people are and who their dogs are at the show. You can start to put names with faces and dogs….
And yes, the results will be posted on line after the show is complete
Rita Jean, we are just 45 min. from Lawrence. We are also HUGE KU fans. My brother lives in Shawnee and has a basenji pup. Where was the show and I would really be interested to know the web site to see where the basenjis live and come from. Thanks in advance for the info!
Congrats on the great day. WE cannot show our BRAT boys but I think it would be really really interesting to go to a show and just watch. Thanks again.
Not Rita Jean, but the website is www.onofrio.com then go to show information and then show results. The results are usually posted 2 days following the show.
Thank you! I will enjoy checking this out!
jonny b. there is show comming up in Joplin, Mo and Springfield, Mo I looked at past B's for Joplin in 2008 -32, 2007 - 32 and 2006 there were 55. Springfield, Mo 2008 - 10, 2007 -7 and 2006 there were 14 Joplin is 10.31.09 nice way to spend the day.
Pat we did not get the catalog we were going to but I forgot it on way out I was not sure if that was what you were talking about. Jaycee was tried and cold going to take her coat next time.

What you got in the mail is the "judging program", it is usually available online before you get it in the mail, and even earlier (a few days after closing) you can usually get the breed counts. I thought maybe the Indian Nations Specialty coming up would be close to you, but it looks like it's quite a drive since it's in Tulsa…and it's on a Friday...and the day before Halloween.
Once you find out who some of the people showing in the area are, it's likely that they may coordinate which shows they go to. If you can get on an email list, it will make it much more simple to figure out which shows to go to.
We were going to try to stay in kind of area. St.Louis, Des Moines, Joplin, Springfield, few in Arkansas might go as far as Little Rock since that is were my mother-in-law lives. Tulsa not bad if on a Saturday I have family in Okla. I wish Texas and Ala was not so far we have family in both those states.

Hey Rita Jean…go check out the Onofrio site, the results are up.
An interesting tidbit that I saw from that show - the Welsh Springer that went Group Four in the Sporting Breeds is co-owned by country singers Vince Gill & Amy Grant.
I was on there and looked at results but I did not see the owner of Welsh Springer. I sure did not hear any music just joking. I am sure they more than likely did not even show the dog themselves. Thank you for telling me that would have been nice to hear some music I would have loved that.

That was a nice entry of Basenjis… I see that Linda Ehlers was there (kennel name Jerlin) and she has been in the breed for years and years and has some really, really nice Basenjis and she is very nice too!... And it was a big entry, since there were major points....
I think I will see a few of those people in Springfield this weekend (it's a 4 point major!). I've never tried the amateur-owner handler class before, they don't seem to offer it everywhere. But, I guess it's probably a good one to get yourself in the winners ring because not many other people are probably using.
