Oil changing Basenji

Basenji Talk
  • I was hanging up a hook in the garage and when I went to come back into my house Zahra ran out into the garage and got into the pan that my husband uses to change the oil in his vehicle. I grabbed her quickly but she got away and ran into the house tracking little motor oil foot prints all through my kitchen and then ran up the stairs.

This little event earned Zahra a pretty long bath with lots of soap. I still don't think that I got all of the motor oil off of her paws!

That little B needs to limit herself to tune ups…....much cleaner and not so messy.
    That's funny Chase.:)

  • LOL! Stormie did that once when visiting my Dad (who is not a basenji fan to begin with - I'm pretty sure I must be adopted ;o) ). Dad was less than pleased with the little oily senji footprints through the garage, but he did find the humor in seeing Stormie in the bath tub looking like a disgraced, drowned rat! :o)

Looks can be so deceiving- here is an article of a woman who adopted a rescue dog in N.J. Dog looks like a basenji - even her vet thought it might be basenji. She did an Embark DNA test - no basenji. Turned out the dog was a mixture of Mountain Cur, Rat Terrier, Beagle, and Boston Terrier. link text

@weedtrek Possibly Basenji mix, nose looks a bit wider and the eyes are less oval. Could well be a Basenji mix though.

My Basenji Billy is quite undershot; he's a purebred, his bottom jaw just didn't stop growing when it was supposed to. That's okay, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dog with an underbite anyway.:) He was my first rescue Basenji.

Dogs learn quickly, especially if their former home was not so nice. Then a new name is perfect. We changed Nicky's name from Nyako, picked a "sound alike" and she learned it pretty quickly, well, as much as some basenjis ever "learn" their name. Some days she doesn't recognize it at all, haha. Eddie was Skippy, I looked at him and called him Fast Eddie and it stuck. That boy knows his name all the time! And do tell, what is the awful name???

I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!
