Nexa the hunter

Basenji Talk
  • Last week Nexa caught her first chipmunk and flipped it up in the air like it was a toy, after it landed it got away under the fence. Today, the chipmunk was not so lucky. When you have two B's chasing one chipmunk, the chipmunk doesn't have a chance (neither did the now destroyed flower beds:mad:). Is there anything we should watch Nexa and Leo for health wise after their tug of war with this thing, worms…etc? As fun as it was for them, the cheese in the house was too tempting and they came in when I called:D I think they went completely deaf during the chase though.

  • Tapeworms and other worms are usually the big concern.

  • Mine killed numerous jack rabbits, rats and even a pheasant. Lucky I guess they never got anything.

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

Congratulations! Leo is so handsome. Nexa and Leo look like they have always been together, like they belong. Their jackets look warm and comfortable. Very nice pics. :)

@tasha: I'm fairly new to the world of basenjis. My boy is 3. So this may not mean a thing but I've never heard of 'wild basenjis'. Everything I've read and heard says that they have never been wild and have always been domestic/family/village dogs. My sister-in-law and her parents lived in Africa for quite a few years when she was growing up.(Tanzania and Kenya) They said that there were many wild, mongrel-type dogs that had basenji features in their vicinity.
