    My name is Bill Farthing and I live in St. Louis with my Basenji girl Binty Buttanna (Buttons) (Binty is Arabic for "little girl"). She is the second Basenji who has owned me. The first was Anteffa Buttanna (also Buttons) in England during the 70s. My first Buttons had most of the B traits which often give the breed a bad name but in spite of it she was loved dearly. She traveled with I and my wife and crossed the Rainbow Bridge in Arabia in 86 at 14. My new little girl is too good to be true. she is gentle and loving, not destructive, and she has never met a person that she dislikes. She came to live with me shortly after I lost my wife and has been my best friend ever since. She was nine weeks old and already had good knowledge of training humans. We have nice long walks every morning and we share our naps during the day. Life is good for Buttons and her old dad.

    Congrats on your puppy…. has he (or his sire/dam) been health tested for Fanconi and PRA with the DNA test? Very important this if this has not been done for his Sire/Dam that you have your boy tested. And even if they have been tested, never hurts to follow up with having him done also.

    My heart breaks reading your wonderful story of Dinah - it is so clear she is a huge part of your heart -you will have such wonderful memories of her when it is her time to give up the pain. I also do not believe dogs don't have souls - of course they do - the unconditional love they give, the way they try to help when you are emotionally suffering, the joy they get when they see you coming after a separation - all these and more are proof they are very soulful. A loving companion dog is God's gift. All our hearts are with you, and our tears flow with yours. God bless.

    Thank you so much for the warm welcome words at the Forum! I was very inspirit by my friend Steve, and think about my new puppy basenji. Although I read that basenjii is not for everybody dog, and it may be challenging however I seriously want to find my own Besenjii friend and to give him the name Kovu in honor of my friend's dog.
