  • Negative is not a possible result for the DNA marker test which is the test you should insist on. There are 4 possible results from the DNA Marker test: Probably Clear/Normal, Probably Carrier, Probably Affected, and Indeterminate between Clear and Carrier. All dogs tested with the DNA marker test have their results listed publicly in the OFA database. If the Roo's Sire and Dam are not listed at http://www.offa.org then they have not been tested.

  • I am sorry to say that you really do need to do the blood work on your basenji to get the true answer.
The good news is once you have it, you can adjust to whatever you need to do.
    Hugs dear.

@elbrant That's how all my 8-some learned to catch. If food dropped on the floor - you lost it ! So they all stood on their hind legs and it was like feeding a nest of fledgling sparrows. A gentle toss of the treat and someone caught it !

Welcome and congratulations! I have two BRATS myself, and a third basenji as well. So beware, they ARE like potato chips (You can't have just one) I love her name, she is gorgeous. Can't wait to hear all about her Homecoming!

@Rita: Pat yes we did get Jaycee's AKC application at the time we got her. Have not got cert back yet as we were really slow in her name made us slow in mailing. Rita Jean Great, it would be good if you gave Sally W the information for her website to update the pedigrees. Many of us rely heavily on the pedigree site when thinking about breeding and researching dogs…. You can do contact Sally at Zande Basenjis (just do a seach for her website and drop her an email with the info)....

Welcome to the forum. Great story too. I especially like the description of your other dog "Betty the Sheprador Chowtriever ." That's Funny! My basenji/whippet mix also came from a local shelter. She wasn't there long enough, or perhaps they didn't know much about bs, but they only had her listed as whippet mix. Didn't take long for a dog savy friend of mine to mention the word "basenji." No doubt in my mind, she is basenji and something. I picked her out and my mother paid for her. Best Christmas present I ever got!
