• Basenji Park is the name of the home where Basenji Boy lives. It is a name given b/c of the way he has done his home and property for his basenjis. I believe he has 5 or 6 basenjis, 2 packs that live there with his family and himself. Maybe you will see his place soon as he does come here and post all the time.

  • Oh I do understand! We refer to the "people door" on the front of the big "dog house", they let us live with them! I buy furniture and cars that I think mine will like and be comfortable on, and if I had bigger property, it would look like a dog park!

  • @Manah:

Does anyone know if Basenji Park is a real place to take a Basenji to? If it is, it sounds like fun!

    Tabatha

Yes it is a real place to take a Basenji to.:D

I've done so many things with our yard just for the B's my wife proclaimed I was "creating a Basenji Dog amusement park". Lot's of places for them to run and hunt that look like the bush, stone paths because they hate wet grass, and thier own little relaxation deck complete with umbrella.:D I'm always working on it, adding something.
So the Dog amusement park thing gave me the idea for a Forum Avatar and I was goofing around one day and created the Basenji Park logo. The wife took it a step further and had the signs made that we have on our fence and we even have signs for our truck we use for dog shows, events…ect.

We've had quite a few Basenji's visit our little park, I should compile a list......honor role.:D It's a great place to stop and let your B's run if your passing through Central PA. Any fellow forumites that are in our area or just passing through, that would like to arrange for a visit are welcomed, we'd love to meet you all and your B's.

    Greetings from Basenji Park.

  • Hey basenji boy,,,,,,,,we have just finished a 1/3 acre fence here in Ohio for our two b's and would like to make our own version of B-park Ohio style!!!!! Could you give us some tips on what we can do before winter comes to make our boring backyard into a b-wonderland?

  • Import some squirrels, rabbits, birds, … (just kidding!!)....

We used to have rabbits in our yard before the B's…....I don't know why they don't come visit us anymore.😕

Maybe the squirrel with half a tail told them it's not a good place to hang out.:D 😃 😃

Being you have two, you want to start by creating some places for them to run to and hide or get away from each other. I would start with some landscaping beds with some plants big enough to make a little cover. Once you have those around, the B's will run around them, to them and when it's wet, create their own paths…..then you'll be fighting the mud it makes. Stone paths work good because they will walk on them when the grass is wet. B's like to dig and lay in sand, a sand box/area is a big hit as well.
The one single thing I've put out there for them is their little deck, another heaven when the grass is wet.:D

Your B's will help you with the design, trust me. They'll erode the grass around things as they run, just work with what they leave you.;)
I will try to post some pictures to give you some ideas.;)

That is so true! Ours have worn a path around or woodpile, along the fence with the neighbor who has dogs. In some places the path is so worn that it is banked. Last spring we had to bring in about a half ton of mulch to try to even it up, and make it less muddy..ick! But they LOVE that trail.

    Just like a racetrack:D …....gee there is something to this B-500 stuff:D .

The BRAT rescue in New Jersey Jasper and Willy visited had the right idea..........the whole inside was stones, no grass no mud. Just stones with little paths all around.

    Sand, mulch and stone.:D

  • hi All– Sol loves big grasses he can rub against-- Miscanthus mostly. One thing I've found with basenji's is that they are not at all yard destructive-- I am a pretty serious gardener and the worst they've ever done is make dust patches to lie in--- of course they have always been walked several miles a day, too.

I agree Kris, and they do love those dust spots.

One thing I do notice, they will chew on some pretty nasty prickly stuff. Like stickers or brambles, rose bushes, they chew on them like they're nothing…..EEEEEEEEEE:eek:

  • BasenjiBoy- where are you in pa? im in ohio and i would love to come visit. i've only seen one other b in person and i would love to visit more!!

Ours are pretty good too…the only things we have lost are a few Rhodos in the winter when the dogs break them when frozen. Oh, and one young Larch tree that was just placed in the wrong place (a path).

They do like to run around in my herb garden...but they don't do any destruction, and they always smell nice afterwards 🙂
