Looking for a red or brindle female in Rhode Island

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • Willing to travel to Connecticut, Mass. or NH.

  • Go to www.basenji.org and you can search by state... however know that this time of your if you are looking for a pup it will be difficult because most all pups are born in Nov/Dec/Jan as Basenjis only come in season once a year and this is when most all pups are born. And you might have to travel further than those states. You might be looking at next breeding season, so now is the time to contact breeders about their breeding plans for 2020. And also don't get hung up on color or sex...

@helle-devi Thank you for responding. I have already been in touch with the basenji sisters. I was not aware before I contacted them that they are located in CA. I think the distance between us is too great. If things didn’t work out between my basenji and one of their girls, the distance would be a problem. I did become a member on the Facebook site that you recommended. Thank you so much! I was unaware that such a site existed. Jo Ann

Glad you got your dog! I looked for a thread on her but didn't see it. Please be sure to get her Fanconi tested (NOT the strip tests, but the actual Fanconi DNA test) as soon as possible if she is not already tested. BRAT strip tests but does not DNA and sometimes people get confused and think a clear strop means no Fanconi. Only by doing the DNA will you know.

@dmcarty: Understanding however that breeding carriers to clear is the option that allows to include the widest genetic diversity. Breeding only clear to clear reduces the diversity in the population - shade of what happend to the breed during some of the other health concerns like HA, PRA and Malabsorbtion. Hopefully we learned that throwing the baby out with the bath water is not the most effective way of keeping valuable traits while eliminating health concerns. +1…I could not agree with you more!

FWIW, they never contacted me or I could have helped them out. After a single post though they may not even be on the forum anymore.

His back pasture used to be used for raising miniature goats, so yes the whole thing is fenced with chicken wire all the way around. While that was nice I still had my guy on a hugely long horse lunge line. My little guy knows come.. sometimes, but not well enough for me to trust him completely off-lead in that large of an area, its about..18 acres? Since their youngest boy is too old for 4H projects they sold off the goats and cows. now the field is just used for some hunting. They raise some of their own game birds like cotornix quail and chuckars. And well, the rabbits (wild) are all over that back field. I let my little guy "hunt" a few of them, never let him get one though. and if anyone can let loose their B with a rock solid come, they need to fill us all in. ~Charlene
