    Hi!
    Last year my husband and I took our two with us on our …. get this....ANNIVERSARY! Yes we did. Why not? they are with us in the bed, why not celebrating our anniversary. Anyway, we live in Southern California and last year we went to Cambria. Cambria is known for their wineries and many of their wineries are doggie friendly.

    This year (May) we are staying at Cambria Pines Lodge and then traveling to Santa Barbara where we'll be staying at Fess Parker. I'll keep you posted as how our stays went and let you know how the lodge fared. Fess Parker is a 5 star hotel and we've stayed there before and their service was excellent!

    While not a place to stay, if you find yourself driving down I-65 near Montgomery AL (say to the Panhandle), the Peach Park is a great stop to stretch your legs. We traveled down with the kids and the dogs. They have a nice little walking trail, playground and a large grassy area to tie-down your B. Oh, plus some pretty darn good BBQ and cobbler! Peach Park is right off of the interstate.

    There's a couple of resorts in Ocean City Maryland that we've got reservation for next summer Atlantic Resort and The Waves. I love the beach & looking forward to this place.

    We're also going to Hilton Head in Sept where they have not explicity said NO PETS so I'm hoping the "barkless" dogs stay true to form :)

    This will be a very useful thread for those of us who just can't part from the furbabies :D

    My husband and I honeymooned in Carmel, CA with our basenji Nicky. Carmel is a very dog friendly town. They have a beach that allows dogs and many dog friendly hotels. The place we stayed we had our own little cabin at the top of the hill leading to the beach. They would bring us breakfast and Nicky a dog biscuit every morning. There were also restaraunts that had special seating for dogs and even had a dog menu.

    Do you know of any pet friendly hotels, Bed and Breakfast, restaurants or other animal friendly places? Please post them here, if we get enough of a response going for this thread hopefully it will get its own thread and our B's will get to see more of the world!

    Very cool Bed and Breakfast that my husband and I have reservations for in June. The resort has a dog park, doggie day care, hiking and fun stuff for humans like Golfing packages and Massage packages. We plan on doing the Canoe outing with the dogs.

    You might reach out to BRAT and ask if they have any foster's in your area that would dog-sit for you. They seem to have Basenji foster parents in every city, so they are experienced with Basenji's and would be able to adapt to short stays. Offer a "donation" of sorts and make it very clear that you are not surrendering your little lady. (worth a shot)

    She loves to eat parsley from my garden as well. Shes a goat in a dogs body. When I ment spoiled I ment it in a fillet mignon and lobster everyday type of way. Some ppl go a little crazy that their dog can't eat in a bowl must be a gold plate…. IF she could have it that way she would gladly take that over a bowl any day lol but that's because she thinks shes the queen of the world.

    I took two basenjis to the Philippines back in 1986 when we moved there (my husband works for the Dept of Defense). And brought them back three years later. Binta and Cheka were young and healthy and did just fine. We had to get a Dept of Agriculture certificate and since my husband was already there we knew the exact procedures they would go through at the airport in Manila. I was on the plane with them (they were in cargo of courses) and it was the longest 24 hr flight I have ever taken (I go to Asia a couple of times a year). I fixed water bottles to their crates which they had used since they were puppies. After we left the Manila airport we spent Christmas in the Philippine Plaza Hotel (4 stars) with them and then went on to Olangapo. We did it then as we loved them too much to leave them behind and the Bs enjoyed the Philippines – parrots and monkeys in the backyard and on walks we would see monitor lizards and all sorts of tropical birds. Plus we had an American vet on the base. Glad I don't have to do it again, however. I did fly my two Aby boys down to Naples with me in a carrier under the seat this January as we still want the animals with us when vacation as much as possible. Merry ... in Naples for two months with Louie and Hobbes, our Abysinnians

    If you ship him underneath in cargo, don't forget there are temperature restrictions. Where would you transfer planes at? This summer has been hot in many cities! Please check the requirements for the airline you will be traveling on. There is usually a limit to the number of dogs allowed on board and in cargo. You will need to make a reservation for him at the time you make your own. There may be additional requirements since you are coming from Canada, you will need to check with the USDA, the CDC and the State of Massachusetts. You can find the requirements on the USDA website and it has links to each state. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_welfare/pet_travel/pet_travel.shtml You need to make sure the carrier will fit under the seat so if the carrier you are considering is much larger than the large size Sherpa brand bag I doubt it will fit under the seat. I used to travel with Arnie onboard about 10 years ago before 9/11. I trained him to get in and out of the Sherpa bag and to stay in for short periods of time. He almost always laid down in it. He never made noise even when we were in first class and they served food! Most people did not even know I had a dog. I also made sure I was comfortable carrying him in the bag. I figured if the airline employees thought I was struggling with him then he was too heavy and he would not be let on the plane. He was an older pup but weighed about 18-20 lbs. Jennifer

    LOL well she probably liked it better when I took her, but if not, oh well… lol. Also, btw, the neighbors said their dog's name was Sarah. I thought, how sweet. Til I found out why... it was short for "Midnight Serenade" ... which she did and you could hear even if she was in the house lol.

    Dayna-how long will you be away :) how nice that you can take your dogs with you. I would be all stressed out!
