Picture Help: How to add and resize pictures in your post

Show Off Your Dog
  • It's easy to add pictures to your posts, here's how…

    1. Upload Them From Your Hard Drive to Basenji Forums:

You can use the Manage Attachments button (found on the page you draft replies or posts), which gives you the ability to attach pictures to your posts.

There is a limit (100kb) to the file size of any attachments you make. Pictures which are too large can be re sized first using resizing programs (read further in this post if you need to resize overly large images).

To attach a file to a new post, simply click the Manage Attachments button followed by the Browse button at the bottom of the post composition page, and navigate to the file on your local hard drive that you want to attach.

Only certain types of pictures may be attached: these are the valid file extensions for files to be attached to this board: bmp gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png.

After posting, the picture will show up in the body of your message. To view the contents of the attachment (if it is not already displayed) simply click the filename link that appears next to the attachment icon.

There are two other options for uploading photos to Basenji Forums which we offer. A member gallery (http://www.basenjiforums.com/gallery/) and a profile gallery located on your profile page.

    2. Upload Them From Your Hard Drive to An External Image Hosting Site:

If you do not already have your own website where you can host your images, you will require a free account at, for example, ImageShack (http://imageshack.us/) or PhotoBucket (http://photobucket.com/), which are free image hosting sites.

Once you are on one of those free image hosting sites, they will explain how to upload images. After your image(s) is uploaded, under or next to each picture you will find boxes URL, TAG, IMG or Direct Link. We need the code in the "IMG" box like this example below or in the "Direct link" to be placed into your post here on BasenjiForums.com:

    [ IMG ]http://www.site.com/images/basenji.jpg[ /IMG ]

For members who already have their images hosted somewhere else or have a direct link to an image, use the above example code to include the images in your post on Basenji Forums. Make sure to replace the link to the image with a direct link to your own image.

Images which are too large are usually automatically resized by the image hosting site, or you are given an option to choose the size. 360 x 480 pixels or 640 x 480 pixels are best sizes.

My Images Are Too Big, How Can I Make Them Smaller?

Most digital cameras take megapixel images that are too big to fit on computer screens. Resizing them smaller also helps to speed the transfer to display the image, especially for dial-up users.

Check out the software that came with your digital camera. Usually that free bundled software does a decent job of resizing. Your image works best when it is resized to fit on an average screen. The sizes 360 x 480 pixels or 640 x 480 pixels are best. That is much smaller than most digital camera photos.

If you are not a whiz at resizing images, go directly to ImageShack: http://www.imageshack.us/. Check the box for Resize Image and choose 640 x 480 or the next one smaller when you upload. Your image will then be automatically resized. Windows XP users have a built-in utility to resize images for sending by email.

Also if all else fails and you can not resize your images try these free programs called Infran View and Pixresizer. You can download them here:

    InfranView: http://www.tucows.com/preview/194967
    Pixresizer: http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm

Or you can also try these online resizing and editing tools, which do not require any installation or downloading and work right in your browser.

    Good luck!

Not as often as he used to, but he still does it once in a big while, and then he tries to dive under the couch like he used to, but instead he just slams into it because he is too big! haha

@Rita: Dan how did you do that? You will have to go step by step my daughter and I both could not get them on here. I see them great from you help me please got lots more want to put on here. Got some of her chasing the kids play plane that fly's. Buana your so correct innocent is that really a word. We love her to death but she is a hand full. At the is not a dull second most of the time. How are you doing? Are you getting some rest? Third question what is the due date? Thank you Holly and crystalncody. Rita Jean I posted them from your album as I was curious to see and help you if I could do it. OK here's the steps. 1.Start your new thread in Basenji Forums. Type in what you want to start it off with. **2.**Now open another browser tab so you can open your photo album separate. **3.**Open a picture from your album. **4.**With your mouse pointer on the picture, right click on the picture. A box will open with a line that says "properties". 5.Click on that and another box will open up. On the line that says "Location", just take your mouse pointer and put it right at the the start of the http…...... and hold the left side button of your mouse down and drag it all the way across to the right until it stops. The long line of numbers should be darkened. The last letters on that line should be"jpg" Let go of the button. **6.**Put the mouse pointer on that area anywhere and right click your mouse and choose "Copy". **7.**Now you have to go back to Basenji Forums. **8.**You see those icons on top for formatting, click on that yellow square box that looks like a picture of a mountain with a moon, click on that. A box will open that says Please enter the URL of your image: Put your mouse on that line and right click and paste that long line you copied in there and then click "OK". **9.**It will now put that line of information onto your thread. You will see that same address now but no picture. That's OK because when you're done you'll see them. **10.**At the beginning and end of that line should be . Put your mouse right after that one on the end and click so your curser is blinking and then hit "enter" on your keyboard so it goes down a line. Now you can type in what you want to describe that picture that will show up. Now click "enter" again to go down a line 11.Now go back to your album and do those same steps again for the rest of pictures. I will now try it. [image: 374821752.jpg] Isn't Jaycee cute! Sometimes I let EL D sit on my lap while I work on the computer but often he gets antsy and stands up and starts to try to climb onto the desk and snatch stuff. :) Just like in your picture
