Basenji mix in IN and Ks need rehoming

Basenji Rescue
  • IN. JUNIOR is a 45 pound, one year old, red & white, neutered male Basenji mix. He's still young, very active and needs an active home with a fence and lots of love and attention to give him. He needs someone to teach him to be a good dog. For 23 hours every day this poor guy is alone in a dark cage at the pound. This has been his life for the past 6 months.
Soon he'll be euthanized for space.

He is at Griffith Animal Control, Griffith, IN.

KS. GEORGIA is a young, very friendly, red and white, female Basenji mix who has been at the shelter for a while. Apparently this is not a very nice facility and if she isn't adopted soon she will be put on a urgent list and she would only have about 12 hours to find a safe place.

She is at the T.Russell Reitz Regional Animal Shelter, Manhattan, KS.

Contact the appropriate shelter, and myself, ASAP if interested in either of these dogs. By adopting or fostering either one you are truly saving its life. A short distance transport could possibly be arranged if you are wanting to adopt or foster but are out of state.
    Let me know.

Again, hope that you have contacted BRAT to take them for placement….. It would be great if you have had them tested for Fanconi with the DNA test.. that would help in getting them placed faster...

No matter what size bed you have, the dogs always seem to end up with 3/4 of it!

Awww. Such a cute little girl. I think that we would be a good foster for a dog like her, or one of the FL dogs. We have experience working with pathologically shy dogs. We have an already established relationship with a great local trainer, and with a veterinary behaviorist. We have 3 dogs here to help with the socialization. But we have 3 dogs, and a fourth coming within the year. I'm afraid my heart is bigger than what we can really handle. I'm also afraid because there is no guarantee she will be adopted. If I knew it was short-term, and she could go to another place after a few months of work, I would be much more inclined to jump at the chance to foster. But, with the cats we foster, one has been here a year (tomorrow will be a year actually), and another we finally gave in and adopted after 2 years of swearing we wouldn't. The "normal" cats get adopted quickly (we have had about 10 go through our house, with the longest staying 6 mos.), but the behavior cases that need socialization and desensitization/counter conditioning work tend to stay. We have only had 2 foster dogs, and they were great and found great homes, but we are running out of friends to convince to adopt dogs. :) -Nicole
