    I know my Boxenji is allergic to wheat,rice,corn-any grains including oatmeal. Natural Balance has some fish and sweet pot that has no grain. She is doing tons better on it. Not perfect yet but lots better after only 4 wks. And benadryl seldom helps with food allergies.

    So we finally got the C3PO's blood work back from allergy testing. They tested for inhalant allergies as well as foods. I asked the vet how reliable the food results were..she was confident but I'm not so sure.

    Anyways..he's allergic to about 20 different things…too long to list but he's positive for many grasses, trees, fungi, weeds. I think I knew this much. He's also HIGHLY allergic to house dust & dustmites. Altho we clean neurotically I imagine that this will be difficult to manage.

    Now for the foods...Poultry, Eggs, Wheat, Barley, Carrots, Peas, Flax..they did indicate the different degrees of sensitivity. High on the list was Carrots, Peas & Barley.

    While I'm not 100% confident on the food results, I still will err on the side of caution & just not feed him any of these. Just in case there is a small chance the test is correct. I've been beating my head here trying to find a food that I can give him that eliminates most of these ingredients but it has been very hard!!

    A lot of the Allergy Formulas or Simple Formulas have Barley or Flax or Carrots..Geez!! :eek: :eek: I really hope I don't have to resort to cooking for him..oh boy!!

    Oh yeah & I also forgot to mention…he's also allergic to COTTON!! :eek:

    Anyone know of a non-cotton doggy bed??

    Yeap..hey did you by any chance get my B's test results by accident, we have the same problems. I am now feeding Champ IVD (innovative vetinarian diet) rabbit. We can only get it form the vet's but he loves it. It is pretty much impossiblw to find any store products that don't contain peas and carrots. My B is also allergic to soy so even the treats are a nono. We buy him some spercial treats, I forgot the name but when I get home I'll look it up and let you know. Champ is doing great with his new food. I feed him dry mixed with wet. My B is also allergic to the cotton but he dosne't have a probelm since he really just lays in it at night. Plus he did pull the cotton out but it's still fluffy. I could probably stuff it with some old non-cotton towles to make it better for him. (Just thought of that one). It's not so bad once you get used to it. I also only give him the pills when I start seeing him bite on his paws.

    UUUGGHH what a pain :mad: I've been looking for some thing that I can buy at specialty pet store b/c I really don't want to go with the Vet foods. They're so pricey these vets! :eek:

    Yeah I did the same but didn't find anything. Seems like all the food in the stores contain peas and carrots. Well I get the 10lbs bag plus the case of wet food. I spend $85 in about 2 months, so though it's a little more expensive it's not over the top when you realize you have a bulk supply of the food plus it makes all the difference since you know the vet is aware of the allergies and won't (hopefully) give you anything containing what he's allergic too.

    I think I may have found something..Solid Gold Barking at the Moon and then some treats that would work too…Natural Blance Treats Sweet Potato & duck. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Oh yes let me know, nice to have other options except that champ is also allergic to wheat and soy.

    I have found many stores if they carry other products by that company will special order the one you want since they already have an account with the ditributor. So if a company has an allergy formula that would work for your dog but the local store doesn't carry it but has their other formulas, then ask if they can order it for you.

    If you saw tapes, that is something that requires a specific med. My vet depends on me to see them because they do not show up on a fecal that shows the eggs of other worms. Tapes can come from ingesting a flea, and it's possible the shelter did not SEE the tapes, so didn't give med for it.

After completing APOQUEL field studies, 239 dogs enrolled in an unmasked (no placebo control), continuation therapy study receiving APOQUEL for an unrestricted period of time. Mean time on this study was 372 days (range 1 to 610 days). Of these 239 dogs, one dog developed demodicosis following 273 days of APOQUEL administration. One dog developed dermal pigmented viral plaques following 266 days of APOQUEL administration. One dog developed a moderately severe bronchopneumonia after 272 days of APOQUEL administration; this infection resolved with antimicrobial treatment and temporary discontinuation of APOQUEL. One dog was euthanized after developing abdominal ascites and pleural effusion of unknown etiology after 450 days of APOQUEL administration. Six dogs were euthanized because of suspected malignant neoplasms: including thoracic metastatic, abdominal metastatic, splenic, frontal sinus, and intracranial neoplasms, and transitional cell carcinoma after 17, 120, 175, 49, 141, and 286 days of APOQUEL administration, respectively. Two dogs each developed a Grade II mast cell tumor after 52 and 91 days of APOQUEL administration, respectively. One dog developed low grade B-cell lymphoma after 392 days of APOQUEL administration. Two dogs each developed an apocrine gland adenocarcinoma (one dermal, one anal sac) after approximately 210 and 320 days of APOQUEL administration, respectively. One dog developed a low grade oral spindle cell sarcoma after 320 days of APOQUEL administration.     Cooper is a rescue of unknown origin (found as a stray, in a shelter for their maximum time, then to an all-breed rescue group). His ears are somewhat offset at resting position and his tail was docked before he was found as a stray, but he otherwise looks and acts like a trindle basenji. We occasionally entertain the idea that he may be part rat terrier or something else of similar size and color, but he has to be at least 75% basenji.

    Do you live in the country in MN? My 4-year-old hound mix, Priss, has problems in the summer months starting about August. She will lick her feet until they are red and the fur is almost gone. I have tried all kinds of medications, shots, and changed her diet, but it is something environmental. I've even taken her to different vets to see if someone might have a solution. Most of the medications are steriods; they work for a week or so, then are ineffective. I won't use them anymore. Priss bloats up like a balloon! My vet thinks it is either a particular weed that grows this time of year or possibly a mite or small insect that is invisible to the naked eye. I wash her feet in vinegar and water when she comes in the house and have started using Willard Water, http://www.dr-willardswater.com, too. Sometimes, I use a diluted solution of tree tea oil to soothe the itching. Priss smells like a dirty sock from licking her feet when she is troubled by allergies. Also, she runs a low-grade fever, especially in the morning. I give her 1/2 a baby aspirin and wash her face with cool water.

    I did have a Westie in the past that had severe allergies to….storagemites, which is in every dogfood that has been stored for a few weeks or more, i.e every food known to man, so he was on the raw diet, did great, he was also severly allergic to fleas, or the saliva from the fleas and to mold/mildew, which living in houston Tx there is a lot of. Poor guy was miserable, until we did the raw diet and decided to keep him inside all the time, when the other dogs went out to play he had to stay in..and it is funny he wanted to go out and the other dogs wanted to come in...figures. The few foods out there that are supposedly good for allergies according to my vet is grainfree ones, Dick Van Pattens sweet potatoe and duck, I believe was one of the ones he recommended. Try to keep the ingredients list as small as possible, cleaner food means less irritants. Just like our food, the less junk we eat the better we feel... Good Luck, I know how hard it is with a dog that clearly is bothered by something and you don't know how to help it. I do know that Petco and Petsmart here in Texas will take food back even though the bag has been opened, which is nice if you are having to try various/numerous different brands until you find what works.     I remeber that the powder 20 mule team borax is it even around now?? sprinkled in the carpets and then vaccumed up, would kill and of the flea eggs that were in it. I have used it and it works… But since the frontline, have had no need.
