Trixie the singer

Basenji Talk
  • Well she finally did it!!!! I have been waiting for my little silent B to yodel or sing or become more vocal and she decided at 6:03AM this morning to sing her little heart out. WOWWWW WAS SHE LOUD!!!!!. My alarm was going off and she tried to match the pitch almost perfect. Four very long siren sounding sounds emitted from her little throat. My daughter came running from across the house (she was in her bedroom with the door closed) thinking something was wrong. We laughed so hard! Although I doubt my mother-in-law was very impressed. She is visiting and I don't think she is as impressed with Trixie as we are! I think it's a B thing!!!

  • Aw, how sweet!

Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.

Wow. I am impressed. We're still at the stage where she won't be crated, can't stand to have one of us out of her sight, and if we're ignoring her she grabs something she isn't supposed to and runs all over the place until we have to pay attention and play. We're having dreams of an adult dog…......hopefully she'll get there someday.

@basenjibratz: It's wonderful seeing a basenji run. They are usually the smallest in the big dog parks but they sure can keep up. When I use to take Talker to a make shift dog park (four enclosed baseball fields) he would run with a border collie. The border collie would always be chasing Talker and the humans were always amazed at his speed and how he was never panting while the border collie would be panting up a storm. It was wonderful to see him stretched out in a full run. Trixie's Daddy should be proud at his girl and so should you. :) Yes I have had several people comment that after a full run Trixie is looking at the other dogs like "why are you panting?" They have often asked me if she ever seems to get tired, my reply is always yes but it takes a while! They are beautiful to watch run! Everytime I watch her it amazes me!
