  • Linkage test for Fanconi Syndrome in Basenjis

“Dr. Johnson has requested a brief suspension of Fanconi linkage testing so that he can concentrate on developing the direct Fanconi test. His lab will process all Fanconi linkage test for requests and samples submitted on or before December 20th, 2007. After that date, Dr. Johnson and his staff will focus their efforts on the development of the direct Fanconi test. Any blood samples received after December 20th will be processed and the DNA stored for future testing.

The Fanconi test request form on the Canine Phenome Project site will be disabled on December 19, 2007. Unless a direct test is available earlier, Fanconi linkage testing will resume in late February.”

We hope the results are good, and we will cheer if they are, and if they aren't, we will support you. Do let us know what you have found please.

@etzbseder: Thanks, I've seen that before, but forgot about it. After looking at that, it shows that my answer would be: Clear pups ONLY means that neither parent is affected, and that does not change with multiple clear pups. The only thing that shows any determination of the parents is a test of the parent themselves (or if their grandparents are clear). correct. The more clear pups (with no affecteds or carriers) you had from the breeding of the same two animals, the more LIKELY it is that the parents are clear…but it certainly would not be a for sure.

@Terry: I heard a rumor, wondered if anyone knows if it's true. The rumor was that an affected dog has been identified with 2 clear parents. Pat, I know you're usually up on this… Terry That seems to be the case, Lisa will most likely also chime in. They are now retest that dog along with his parents. As we all know there is always human error and the samples may have been mismarked. I have no doubt in the test (and I know that others will mostly likely use this as a way to discount the test), but I will stand on the over 1100 samples that have already been done and they all seem to be as they should. IMO and I have a sample that was most likely taken at the same time, that there was either a problem when the sample was sent in or there was a problem when the DNA was extracted. At the same time and the sample taken at the same time, there is another dog that is showing as Carrier from two clears… again that is being retested also...
