    I have a Basenji/Dachshund mix that we adopted from the local rescue league last fall. Should I have her tested for Fanconi? With her being a mix, I'm not sure how concerned I should be about Fanconi. My vet didn't mention it at her last visit, but she might not be very familiar with Basenji's. Any advice or information would be appreciated.

    I've never thought about a mix having Fanconi. Have any ever been tested? I guess it's a possibility.

    I know other breeds and even humans can get fanconi. So, maybe for your peace of mind?

    I'd love to show you some pictures - how do I get them to post here? When I try, it says the size is too big, and I can't figure out how to resize.

    If you are positive one parent was a pure Basenji and the other parent was a pure Dachshund then she cannot get Fanconi Syndrome.

    I have a B cross and I was wondering about Fanconi with her.

    Just shared a chicken nugget snack with both boys. Meds for the B- we split a 20mg tablet of Predinisone, for a morning/night dose,he's about 32 # now, gaining weight, eating and drinking lots. The other dog has been on regular meds- potassium bromide, gabapentin, and phenobarbitol. That regimen has yielded good results, but predictable- he'll still have 1 or 2 episodes a month. I've already worked out tentative plans for an endgame. Known a mobile vet doc and friend for years, I'll call on her when the time comes- she's helped in the past with a GF's kitteh. Planning a nice fish/bacon whatever dinner, and a heavy dose of probably gabapentin to sedate him. Then the euthanasia procedure. Then a large rock for me to crawl under. Allow me to share a quote.     Thank you for all your replies. I truely appreciate learning so much about everyone on this board. Unfortunately, I don't know what the parents of my pup is due to being a rescue dog. He was found in a garbage bin, then a shelter, then a rescue, then in my life!

    My Nika's eye got cloudy to the point of flicking your finger at it got no response then the eye turned blood red. Went to the eye vet and it turns out the lens inside the eye slipped. I had to give her other eye these very expensive eye drops called Xalatan or Travatan that kept the pressure down and the pupil small but even then the lens was moving around a little.

    Yay, there doesn't seem to be a need for the vet. Today was good and tomorrow will be better. Medjai started the day with a tiny bit of brown rice and the turkey bits picked out of the rice. Then he had some just plain beef also cooked plain and then later yet ate some of his kibble. He also had a only really soft poop. I never thought it would be so good to see him poop. He should be just fine, although I still have no idea what was wrong.

    Hey Terry! I'm excited to know Jojo is coming home on Sunday!! Can't wait to meet her. I take Hollie to Callahan Drive Animal Hospital off I-75 North in Knoxville. I have seen two vets there. Dr. James Hilla, DVM is the head vet/owner and Dr Alisha Harbin. They were both thorough with the exam(s) and clearly communicated things to me. They treated me and Hollie exactly like I wanted us to be treated. I too, had been searching for the right vet(s). I think I have found them!!! They also seem to have basenji expereince. They commented on how calm Hollie was to be a basenji mix.     Never mind. I just read another thread that answered that question. I will pick up some diastix from Walmart. I don't really think it is a possiblity that she could develop Fanconi's since she is a half B but it won't hurt to occasionally test her urine because I would feel awful if something happened to her and I could've done something. Thanks again.
