New dog aggression after neutering
Hello! Lincoln got neutered 3 weeks ago and before neutering, hadn't shown one lick of aggression towards other dogs. He got his stitches out a week ago. In the past week he has suddenly become dog aggressive while he is on his leash. I've even caught him "stalking" other dogs like he stalks prey (He crouches and walks slowly towards a dog when he spots them). Once he gets close, he lunges and snaps at them. This is completely new behavior, and I am at a loss as to why it's happening! It is very concerning as we live in downtown DC where he encounters dozens of dogs daily. He seems to be okay at the dog park but has also become very mouthy and nippy with people when he is an excited state (i.e., when he's running and playing with other dogs). He nips hard enough to bruise and rip clothing; he thinks it's a fun game. Right now I'm afraid to take him to the dog park at all or let him interact with other dogs. Help!

RE: dreaming of a Basenji girl... (ILM)
In case this info is helpful, I got a retired male show dog at 18 months old for $1100 (Virginia area) and the breeder's puppies go for $1300.

@DebraDownSouth Thanks! Would you mind posting the links? I'd be interested in reading them.

RE: What to expect with neuter surgery?
@tanza Thank you! He started howling mournfully in October and I think it is because he know it is breeding season...

What to expect with neuter surgery?
Hello! We are scheduling Lincoln for his neuter surgery soon (he will be 2 in February, and was kept intact for showing/breeding purposes by his breeder). All my previous male dogs were neutered at a much younger age. What should I expect after the surgery? Will he have any changes in personality or behavior?

RE: Advice for potential first-time basenji owners
@Cafu That's awesome you also have a Marjani boy! Are you located in the DC area? Do you know which of Julie's dogs are his parents? My boy is from Penny and Fubu.
Lincoln will be 2 in February and hasn't shown any aggression in the dog park (but he is closely monitored). He doesn't seem to have many of the typical basenji traits, which we were not expecting. He has a dog walker that he loves and goes to daycare with her once a week. He is a very sweet, sensitive, and cuddly boy. I really think Julie does a great job of breeding for temperament, because Lincoln has the best personality!

Lincoln the Basenji
Not new to the forum, but I felt Lincoln deserved an introductory post as he has now arrived home!!
Born Feb. 2016 (he is almost 1 year 7 months old)
Shares his birthday with President Abraham Lincoln
AKC Champion (now retired)
27 lbs, 17.5 inches tallHis favorite things to do are: nap for hours under a warm blanket; watch me from another room by swiveling his head around 180 degrees; running around in circles when he is antsy; and sprinting at full speed around the park.

RE: Advice for potential first-time basenji owners
@DebraDownSouth I'm coming home for my lunch hour each day. We just moved to a new apartment very close to my work - so that I can give him enough exercise during the workday. I'll post some more photos!!!

RE: Advice for potential first-time basenji owners
Happy update: Lincoln arrived home 3 days ago and seems to be adjusting well. He's a little timid in the city environment since he has not been exposed a lot of the loud noises. He's gradually getting used to getting affection from us and seeks out cuddles on the couch. I go back to work tomorrow and am so nervous about leaving him alone (I think I have separation anxiety myself, LOL)...

Possible Basenji mix on Craigslist?
https://mansfield.craigslist.org/pet/6125806077.html
Does this puppy look like a basenji mix to you? I would like to contact the owner to let her know about BRAT, but I wanted to get people's opinions on whether she looks like a basenji. I thought the shape of her head and her markings were very similar.

In regards to giza1's post - I'm originally from Ohio so I had to look this up... Can't believe there is a retired show dog on Craigslist...
