That is quite interesting and I guess he did want to let me know the rug was his , and not mine!

@jengosmonkey haha definitely will! I feel like I am living with an annoying roommate rather than a loving companion

@eeeefarm my husband seems to think that dogs are not vengeful so I am very glad to hear your experience with these little devils!
They sure do make our lives interesting

Do Bs pee out of spite?
My 12-month B is potty trained and knows to go through the doggy door onto the balcony to pee. However this morning, he was playing with my rug and I firmly said no a couple of times for him to stop.
He proceeds to walk away and as I turn my back, he pees on my rug!
The doggy door was just 1 metre away! But also he usually waits for his morning walk to pee.
Are teenage pups vengeful? He's been very difficult lately!

RE: Does your basenji prefer their own bed?
@tanza Agreed! Koda sometimes chooses his dog bed or the crate in the other room. He seems content with his alone time but hates it when we leave him alone. We've taught him to sleep on his own at night since he was 3 months old though... From 8pm to 10pm he was in our bed and then we would take him to his crate for the night. I guess that's why he prefers to chill in his bed now

@jkent They're such fussy pets... Every time I pop him in our bed, he will jump back down!

Does your basenji prefer their own bed?
My 9 month old boy is such a funny little fella. He used to love cuddling up to us and get in our bed during winter. I would physically pick him when he asked as he doesn’t like to jump.
I got him his own dog bed and since then he now refuses to get in our bed!
He will still cuddle up to our feet in the kitchen or in the living room.
Is anyone’s basenji like this too?? I miss the cuddle bug XD Maybe he will come back in bed next winter on his own terms…

RE: Winging and wining
I am having the same issue with my little one but the difference is that he also gets separation anxiety. We try and crate him for 2-3 hours a day so that he can nap (still 6 months old) and I've learnt that closing the door of the room helps stop the whining so that he doesn't see us walk about. If he sees us walking around, he will whine to get our attention. He's currently whining as we speak because he wants to get in bed and he doesn't like to jump!

Pros and cons of getting an older puppy
Hello!
I wish to seek advice from this forum as experienced basenji owners. I will not be able to pick up my puppy until it is at least 5-6 months due to covid. I was wondering what are the pros and cons in getting an older puppy, in regards to:
- Training it (potty train, learning commands such as sit, no etc or remembering their names)
- Removing it from its litter? Will it have separation anxiety?
- Will they be comfortable settling in a new home?
Essentially I would love to hear about your experience with bringing home older pups. I have no doubt the breeder will socialise it in the meantime but I feel like I will miss out on important time with my basenji.
Thank you
