I heard back from the finder this morning. She says his face looks like Basenji, but his tail is long and straight, not curled. So she thinks he might be a mix. Anyway, she is going to take him in to the vet to check for a microchip, and will hold on to him for the rest of the week. If he isn't claimed, she says she will contact BRAT.

Houndmom, I'm sure that if someone is looking for her, they already notified the HS and other shelters in the area or will soon. I wish I could take her if her family doesn't find or want her back. It just hasn't been the same without Dot in our life. Keep those IGs safe! I'm glad you found the forum. From Alicia in Ohio
I don't know, the picture is so bad that I can't tell. I also remembered someone in southern NC was looking for a lost b-mix, but wasn't sure if it was on this forum or somewhere else. It's still a cute dog.

This is generally considered not good advice for dogs like Basenjis. Unlike other dogs, they are not very forgiving with people that cause them pain. You will likely end up with a dog that becomes fearful of people reaching for his head. Often squeezing a dog's muzzle to alleviate play biting will have the opposite effect as well, as it charges a dog up even more.
And FTR, rubbing a dog's face in anything is cruel, and ineffective teaching. Not one, single professional trainer that is up to date on current techniques would advocate that.
There are many threads here about working to reduce puppy play biting with Basenjis. Look under the training threads.
