  • Robyn i was being sarcastic! Come on, they post here and we'd chew them up and spit them out. The comparison of their dogs with responsible breeders would BOOST, not hurt you. In fact, the posting of these dogs leads to debates that anyone here reading would JUMP to breeders, not the craigslist. Honest, I see those postings as an advertisement for those of you who do it right!

  • Debra, I think we share the same sense of humor:), lol, and irony too!

I agree that the posting of these CL dogs, whether you call them rescues or livestock, only strengthens the importance of finding a responsible breeder…. the person (Donna) at the start of this thread was a suspicious poster to me, as well as to others.... so if someone new to the basenji breed sees this string, perhaps they will heed, "buyer beware".

  • Well I understand it wasn't a good idea to use sarcasm… Robyn has adults she is trying to place, a new litter on the way, and finding homes right now is a hot button. I should have spelled it out not depended on anyone to get it. And I would sure hate someone new here to think I SERIOUSLY think the craigslist dogs are an option over legit rescues and responsible breeders.

It's a good thing I don't live anywhere in the US. I would have a house FULL of rescued B's!!…..and they would probably all stay with me too....

@yodel4me: I would love to foster but since BRAT won't let me adopt I doubt they would let me foster. I also have considered rescuing a dog every now and then on my own but I live on a retirement income so I really can't afford the extra veterinary costs. Being retired gives me more time than money. So I've decided the best I can do is volunteer at the animal shelter. Unfortunately the closest shelter I live to doesn't allow volunteers so I can only help at one that is twice the distance when I need to go into the city. I'm BRAT's Basenji mix coordinator, would you ever consider fostering a mix? You can e-mail me at: giza1@wildroseinternet.ca -Joanne

Thanks so much Sharon. I hope BRAT can help Frankie; I have this sinking feeling that someone would see how cute he is and adopt him without knowing anything about Basenjis - and there he'd be, in rescue or a shelter again! Terry

If you can get the full pedigree information, you might want to contact Sally Wallis who maintains the pedigree website. In her personal database she does collect breeder information when available. So she may have at least the names of the breeders and may be able to give them to you.
