Off Topic
  • Hey, Diana just joined both of them will help in anyway I can just yell.

    Rita Jean

  • THANK YOU - THAT IS HUGE FOR US - I really appreciate this folks - more than you can ever know - someday when you see the Podengo actually at an AKC show in the Hound Group you can say - I helped do that!

  • I signed up for the Pequeno too..

  • How many times have I ask you questions or for help on basenji and you always answer and help. No need for thank you I want to tell you thank you for your help.

By the way maybe I want to be the one to show off a Podengo in ring for AKC I told you I like them.

  • Well Quincy is just sitting here waiting LOL (he is the guy you were carrying around when we met for the basenji transport)

My daughter just adors him but Thumper - her basenjis has already told her that 'one of these things here is enough'.

  • Diana, I love this little boy too…

  • Diana,

Quincy is just too damn CUTE!! Is he going to be pequeno or medio/grande? Those ears, OMG!!! How old is he?

  • Diana, I know who that comment was for and he is really cute your just making this harder and harder now stop that. How big do you think he is going to get?

    Rita Jean

  • These 'babies' and I use the term loosly (born May 30, 2009) are Grande (we think but no way or REALLY knowing until they stop growing) Both parents are Grande one is 23 3/4 52 lbs the other is 26 and likely 60 pounds now. I sort of like the funny ear stage - and they do have 'highly mobile ears' but nothing beats the flying nun look or the lopsided look. But as should happen with a good litter - ears are looking more standard now and up. They do grow into them.

Rita if it makes you feel better - my daughter won't let Quincy go anywhere anyway - maybe you'll be ready for the next generation.

  • Thanks that really makes be feel lots and lots better I can see that your daughter and I both have great taste in dogs. Maybe on next generation never know if it's not to soon. My husband seen his picture today and said he just look's like in the picture a over grown basenji what do men know.

If it will help I can sign my granny up also let me know no problem be one more on there if you like.

    Rita Jean

  • I'm in, too. Some are wire haired and others are smooth like a Basenji?
    Interesting breed.

@dmcarty: I typically only breed when I have some good home lined up as well. But when I started to investigate the breed - there were 19 Podengo Grande Smooth registered in the world. So I started the project to see what we in the US could do to increase the numbers and to motivate those breeders in Portugal to register their dogs. We are starting to see some success and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have 11 puppies. I do have some homes and some will go to different parts of the US for breeders of other size Podengo to show off, I have a few that are staying by me and a friend has offered to take in a couple to continue socializing when I have to go back to school in the fall. Once they get their shots and I can get them out and about - I think I will see some interest. My good friend Wendy (Harehill Hounds) has been very helpful in building some interest in the Beezer community as well. It really sounds that you know what you are doing, so everything will turn out fine , I am sure about that! meanwhile you can show us loads of pictures of the bunch :D

@dmcarty: There is info posted at these websites if you are interested in seeing more - www.podengo-pequeno.com and www.podengo-mediogrande.com Those sites were really interesting thanks for posting them. I've been following this since you first had us guess what breed you were importing. Nice to follow the progress! :)

oops Robin forgot to answer your question - she is eligible in FSS AKC for Companion events - I plan on starting with Rally - I may do some lure events just the baby try it out ones because she is not old enough until November and we don't have much lure coursing in Minnesota in November. Plus I have to say that going to lure coursing without having John Siverson there would feel a little strange - I have a trainer who is very interested in agility with her and would actually show her in agility for me - which given my propensity for falling down might not be bad.

At Wal-mart it is in the Baking Goods aisle, where the flour & sugar is!
