Sharing…

Basenji Talk
  • Does your B ever try and share their bone or treats with you? Cali is always bringing one of her meaty bones up to me as if she wants to share. She jumps on me and nudges the bone toward my mouth and I pretend like I am taking a few bites and then I give it back to her:) I think it is so funny when she does this, but so generous. She does it everytime she gets a bone until she finishes it, constantly bringing it back to me so I can have a bite:) . Of course she takes the first bite and then she wants to share with me. Sometimes it will take her a couple of days to finish a bone because she is always hiding them. I will usually only let her have 1-2(meaty) bones a week as a treat. I always end up finding some remnants of a bone or pig snout in some corner or obscure place that she has hidden it when I am cleaning house.

No, Jazzy doesn't share with anyone.

I'm usually the lucky one to find a hoof or snout walking in my bare feet…....ouch!

You must have a very secure Basenji.

  • Tlbuddy-I think that is so funny :D maybe she thinks you're one of her pups so she tries to feed LOL!! j/k I think that is so cute.

  • I think it's so sweet! Nala used to bring all of her chew toys and chew them on me…yuck! I was always all slimy...She outgreww it, but I kind of miss it hearing about Cali's sharing!

  • I wouldnt be surprised if she didnt think I was one of her young ones! After all she thinks she is the Queen of the House. She can be really sweet when she wants to be, but then there are those times….. All I can say is Whoa!!!She challenges me more mentally than any other dog that I have ever had. I never know what to expect, but I wouldn't trade her for any other dog.:)

Well isn't she a sassy little thing? Thanks so much for the information. I had not heard of this one at all. I will Google it to get more info and find where to purchase! Deb

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.

Ella does not dry us off, but she will go after any other wet dog. When we are walking near a creek with our Labrador friends she will crouch on the edge of the stream, torn between excitement and fear. But when a wet dog emerges from the creek, she will excitedly chase and nip and lick them.
