Lure Coursing Video & Pictures

Basenji Training
  • Terry of Ottaray Hounds attended last weekend's ASFA trial in Calhoun, GA with her girl Claire. It was fun meeting Claire, who looks like she could be littermates with Lola!
Terry added pictures of the weekend to her website, and also put together a video! Enjoy!

The pictures take a bit to load, and the basenji pictures start about 2/3 of the way down with Beck in a yellow coat. Then shots of Zip & Clair posing with their ribbons, Riley posing in his red coats, me & Lola, a couple of Booger & then shots of Lola meeting Claire & Bonmi.

The first run is Riley (MauiGirl), followed by another Tri, Beck from Chicago. The third run is Booger… you can see he didn't finish. He just kind of lost interest & ran off. In the next scene, MauiGirl tells Booger we're sending him to a glue factory in China. :D Then the next several runs are Zip's Best in Field runs with stills of her posing with her ribbons!! There are also some stills of Clair, Lola meeting Clair & Liz posing with some IGs. Very cute video!

  • LOL @ glue factory. Nuh-uh.

I didn't realize that Terry took videos the whole weekend…awesome! I think the solo runs turned out great, she could zoom in more. I sure wish that BIF run didn't have to be stopped like twice....In case you can't tell, our little Zip was in front of the pharoah and whippet for about 5 seconds in the first part! Haha!

She has now run with a whippet, saluki, greyhound, pharoah hound....basenji, well duh.....I think that's about it.

Did she run with a Rhodesian? Or did it run BIF, but not with her?

  • Yup, there were two "flights" ( I think that's what they call them).

  • Looks like you guys had a great time!

@Mojo's: We took Mojo lure coursing for the first time a couple of weeks ago- he loved it! There was one lady who said if they ever do actually go after a real animal- say a bird or rabbit- and catch it, they will lose interest in lure cousing- they will want real prey. NOT TRUE… gggg..... Maggii loved to course... caught and killed 3 squirrels in our yard... never made a difference. Mickii caught and killed 2 ground squirrels on outdoor off lead runs... never made a difference (Oh and add one bird plucked out of the sky)... C-Me, just a year old now.. loves coursing... at 4 1/2 months caught her first squirrel in the yard and at 7 1/2 months one baby bird out of the sky

How did you like running in nice warm GA? We only ran one day of AKC in OK as the rain turned real heavy overnight and continued into the morning, none of us wanted to run our whippets on a slick clay hill. See you in TN next weekend with my 2 boys

This coming weekend there is LGRA and NOTRA in Orange County. My mom has the information. I think there is also some racing in December in Orange County. Don't know what the show schedule looks like or if these conflict with any. I do know this time of year is the racing season in So Cal since the parks are available.

Yay glad to see some more local interest! As far as training, there is a group called SONG (Sighthounds of North Georgia) that does informal practices once a month or so depending on man power & weather. These practices are a great way to introduce a new dog to the lure. However, for most dogs its an instinctual thing & they don't need much training. Lola & Callie both caught on to it their first time. I just let them both watch other dogs doing it first, then let them go & they did their thing. Website for SONG: http://www.nghounds.info/index_files/Page430.htm It doesn't get updated frequently, but go to the lure coursing practice tab, scroll to the bottom & there are instructions to get on the e-mail list for upcoming practices. Hope to see you lure coursing soon!
