Skin washing

Basenji Talk
  • I know we've had a thread before about how our beasties like to wash our skins for us. I just had to share this episode that happened the other night.

EL D and I were playing in the living room and he got distracted and moved on to explore something that caught his attention. So I just continued to sit on the floor against the couch and watched TV not paying further attention to him. Some minutes later he jumps on the couch (no big deal) and pretty soon I feel this paw on the top of my head pulling it backwards so he could lick my forehead. As i looked up at him he just continued down my face, licking everyhting (yuk). But I couldn't stop laughing because of the paw on the head part. :D

  • That is soooooo sweet, they surely love attention and will do anything to get it back once they decide they want it again, it has got to be when they want it, haha"!!! How can you not love him to pieces, :D :D :D :D :D :D

  • My 2 have to clean any wound they find. Mosquito bites to scratches are fair game.

Katie goes overboard and will chew off any scab she finds and can get to….eeewwwwwwwwwww.

Well isn't she a sassy little thing? Thanks so much for the information. I had not heard of this one at all. I will Google it to get more info and find where to purchase! Deb

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

You were pretty much right DonC, I showed the vets office the picture I had taken and they believed it could very well been a bug bite that had caused the baggy skin. Sorry I haven't downloaded the pic I have really been under the weather. Maybe I will upload the picture sometime in the future.
