    You know, I'm surprised that I didn't get in on this thread from the very start, I know that picture very well, I may well be one of the people responsible for it being "out there". It's funny, the blog mentions that the picture is from the '70's… nope sorry, 1993 I'd say. The little tri female running in right wheel position (with her head down) was from my first (and only) Basenji litter. She was born June 22,1992. The names of all the dogs are written on the back of the picture but I don't know where it is. I've got 3 views of that Basenji sled team but the one you usually see is the best.

    Sad news about Annie though, she was quite the person. First time I saw her was at the Canadian National in '91, she was gaiting (storming) around the ring and I remember thinking, "this woman is serious, don't get in her way". She used to do competitive weight pulling with her Basenjis too.

    Looks can be so deceiving- here is an article of a woman who adopted a rescue dog in N.J. Dog looks like a basenji - even her vet thought it might be basenji. She did an Embark DNA test - no basenji. Turned out the dog was a mixture of Mountain Cur, Rat Terrier, Beagle, and Boston Terrier. link text

    @weedtrek Possibly Basenji mix, nose looks a bit wider and the eyes are less oval. Could well be a Basenji mix though.

    @ktiefen1 You would be correct!! Potty Training eventually came easy because ours is so treat motivated....lol. Basic obedience is a challenge for us......ahe is definitely her own girl....and please dont disturb her sleep. You could lose a limb. ::)))))

    There's nothing like a basenji in the works, from the way they instinctively lay with their had on the bum looking the other way ( I've never met a B that doesn't) to the way you KNOW they all rub on wet towels or play bow…it's all very endearing and in this breed you often identify traits that they all have, an insight into their genetics and their behaviors. I've never enjoyed a breed so much.

    My Basenji Billy is quite undershot; he's a purebred, his bottom jaw just didn't stop growing when it was supposed to. That's okay, I'm a bit of a sucker for a dog with an underbite anyway.:) He was my first rescue Basenji.

    I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!
