Eye warts?

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • A couple of weeks ago I noticed a small whitish dot right at the inside corner of Booger's eyelid. I thought it was just a minor battle wound, but it hasn't gotten better. Now he's starting to get one on the other eye. They are both small, whitish dots that are just a little bit calousy or warty looking, if that makes sense. They don't seem to bother him, but I'm wary of eye problems.
Andrew says a friend of his had a dog that got scratched in the eye by a cat & developed some sort of bacterial infection & it was quickly cleared up with antibiotics. We have a cat, and they frequently wrestle. Could this be a wart? Will this clear up or should we go to the vet?
I tried to take pictures; they make it look a little worse than it really is. The second shot looks as if its swolen & slightly obscuring his vision, but its not really. He doesn't seem to have any vision problems or anything.

  • I'd take him to the vet.

Thank you for your help. I took her to the vet. They prescribed eye drops to see if it would help. They stained her eye. No scatches. They eye is slightly recessed. I will try the massage as you suggest. I really don't want her to have surgery. But I don't want her to be in pain either. Hoping the massage helps. Thank you.

Pat, yeah, it was many but the specialist from GA (who does CERF btw, or did, could be retired at this point) said all were iris to iris and none should cause her issues. But you can still see them. I am comforted to know that a lot of strands don't pass as I honestly don't remember seeing that limitation, only on placement. Been a long time since I looked at CERF. But the issue was and then, the person LIED. She sent me a puppy for my child, who already had more on her than any child should with my health issues, that she obviously had no clue about– a puppy she had no clue about it's eye health. And then wanted her back if I wasn't going to breed her as she would. Yeah, over my dead body.

As soon as I read the first post I thought of Sinbaje and her avatar. I hadn't realised Linda just how talented he is. Congratulations to Drew for his many great successes.

@LovingLola: Thanks. I didn't know that they should see an opthamologist regularly. Yes, it is highly recommended, IMO for all breeds, but especially for ours that have eye problems. Like I said, once I have a base line that shows no problems, I don't have a problem with going every two years when in their prime. And it is not all that expensive at least not in the Bay Area and believe me, we are pretty pricey on Vet things….

My first Basenji would have nice bright white eyes. I would take her mnt biking with me and her eyes would be red and watery. My other 2 never experienced this. It's probably allergies. The older I get, the worse my allergies get. I have also developed new allergies. Things like Russian Olive never bothered me, now my eyes start flowing and my sinuses become highly irratated. If the concentration is high, I have trouble breathing. Talk your vet about OTC allergy medications and dosage. If your Basenji shows the same symptoms indoors and they do not improve, consider having your ducts cleaned and an electronic air cleaner installed.
