Basenji Talk
  • Long time no see, i tried to log in to my old account newbasenjiowner but had forgotten my old email to get my password back.
Pilot keeps getting out in the front of the house, but generally our family is pretty good about that, he has grown quite a bit starting from a hand sized curious pup to a 20 pound rambunctious dog.
He is still a puppy and is in pretty good health, although he hasnt gotten much exercise lately, he plays with our bigger rottweiler.
    How is everyone? anything new?
I recently set up a malawi cichlid fish tank if anyone is interested in that kind of stuff other than basenjis.
he completely ignores all my reptiles and fish which i love!
anyway im just checking in, Happy Halloween although its kind of late.

  • Welcome back! I don't think I know you though, lol

  • I'm fairly new so I don't know you but I do like reptiles…don't own any though. I know a little about fish...worked in a pet store years ago. Oh, by the way we did NOT sell puppies !!!! So welcome back.

Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.

None of our B's yodel. Our B/W that came with my husband into our marriage never made a sound he passed away a few years ago and we got two pups who are now 3 and 4 The 4yr old never has made a sound since coming to be with us.Only twice has a yodel slipped out and that was when he was hungry and food wasn't getting there fast enough. Our tri 3 yr old we heard yodel as a pup with her litter mates but since coming to live with us she has also only yodeled a few times Maybe because he is so silent she is too?? My daughters dogs yodel all the time and I love it, I so wanted to have singing dogs too
