Basenji Talk
  • I have a female basenji who the phase "wakes up badly" if really fitting. She was sleeping on the pillow which was on the loveseat. My grandson must have left his cellphone under the pillow. It started to vibrate and then it yells at you to pick up her phone. Mabel was not amused, she jumped up and stared at the pillow. She picked the pillow up in her mouth and shook it a good one. She then threw the pillow on the floor. The cellphone was the next thing to go flying threw the air. Let sleeping Basenjis lie.

Well isn't she a sassy little thing? Thanks so much for the information. I had not heard of this one at all. I will Google it to get more info and find where to purchase! Deb

Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.

Too funny Miche! Jonas and Jesus sound kind of similar! Perhaps Jonas was a little confused! ;) Oh, and maybe he just wanted to make sure the baby Jesus was clean and well groomed (hence the water bowl baths) like a proper b! :p Sharron - That's too funny! The look on a non-barking dog's face when they hear the bark of another is PRICELESS! It also sounds like your little girl has learned how to work her feminine wiles to the fullest! :p Oh, and my Mom's b barks, too - especially at things that are out of place in the house or things she finds "threatening" like the shop vac!
