Been a rainy two days in Fl Thor has not had the normal pool side runs. it’s our rainy season here in SW Fl. USA. His paw is looking a bit better, less red between the toe, bottom pad as well. and back to a normal gait. The rest ( lack of running on deck pavers)....seems to be helping. I am going to stay on top of this problem because I can’t keep him from running....It’s his safe run area.

For years all my boys had tails to the left and the girls tails to the right but this has changed now and my current pack contains 2 female and 2 male lefts and 3 female and 1 male right. They will all hold their tails on the opposite sides but not for long.

@Elscodobermann: Tilly does the same trick. Only she smacks poor old Humphrey dobermann on the head repeatedly if he is (in her opinion) closer to the fire than her - and only stops when he moves… Good job she wasnt around to try it with some of my previous dobes - we would have had basenji mince... Maya does that too! Except we dont have the luxury of a nice fire (i miss that! ) so its usually when someone is sat where she wants to be, or if she has scoffed her chews down too quickly and decided she wants someone elses, that sort of thing. The labradors just give into her but Delilah the pug is very much top dog (noones told Maya that though lol) and has put Maya in her place on more than one occassion! Thank god for Lilah, i'd actually have to TRAIN the basenji if it wasnt for her

I, (name), take you, (Basenji), to be my pooch, my constant friend, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward. In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad regardless of the obstacles we may face together, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you till death do us part. BDawg-you said it better then I ever could :D it is a true marriage in every way, shape, & form. There isn't ANYTHING I wouldn't do or sacrifice for my two pooches. I told my DH that I would sooner give him up then my dogs :D :D I'd never leave my dogs no matter what. He told me we'd have a bitter battle over the…lol :D BTW-I know EXACTLY what you mean by that "bond" they trust you to protect them & take care of them & love them.

Although I have a large fenced yard with my three, I don't see the problem with not having a fenced yard. For the first 8 months I didn't have a fence-it just made me work harder to keep my B (Shadow) happy. The biggest thing is to make sure that you can change YOUR thinking. These dogs are not G Shepherds, Boxers, (which I have and a Heeler also) nor are they like any other domesticated dog. You will end up being trained by them. They are not submissive like other dogs and they think independently. You will find yourself putting things away that you never thought possible. Garbage will become a treat to enjoy (whether in the cupboard or not). Shadow has managed to pull the garbage through a small opening where my other dogs couldn't care less. I have baby locks and gates throughout my house and double doors. As has been said many times-please read the stories and then visit and THEN if and only if you can live with destruction, chaos and change and are willing to change your ways of thinking-look for a Basenji! (Sorry to be a party pooper, but we see so many returned, broken, beaten, aggressive and unhappy dogs and people we would rather you see the bad before the good.)

I really appreciate all of the replies… the advice & suggestions are invaluable. With everything in perspective, I feel I lot better, and I can't wait to meet some Basenjis! I think we may go meet some this week, and we're both really excited! Thanks again! Carrie
