Distended/Bloated Stomach

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • I have a 13yr old basenji, who recently developed a distended/bloated stomach. We took him to vet and blood test and urine test were complete with no abnormalities. Vet would like to perform and ultrasound but hasn?t explained what she is looking for. Any thought on what it could be and questions I should ask vet? Thank you.

Yes, the test for Lyme disease is a blood test. It is a special test that is not in the regular panels– they usually run it separately, after they rule out other things. I hope your B is better! Did you find out what was wrong?

@wizard: Makes you wonder what the vet schools are teaching too! Indeed it does!

I just talked to one of the geneticists working with this group yesterday at the ACoD. They are also looking for bitches who had mammary tumors. If I understood correctly they may also consider other cancer types if they can get 60 dogs of the same breed with the same type of cancer.

Macpack, that is exactly what I will be doing from here on out, even though I got a new fancy trash can. Who knows, he might not have gotten so sick from trash digging, but I am not willing to take another chance.. Yes helpless is definitely how you feel.. but he is all well, still on antibotic and bland foods, but I am slowly introducing his normal diet, and I bought some probiotics and digestive enzymzes for him to take as well..any thing for a healthy gut..lol

My vet told me I could give a whole benadryl tablet for his seasonal allergies. I sometimes give him half a tablet and hide it in some cream cheese. I boiled a chicken leg with some rice, carrots and green beans. His stool seems to be getting better since I gave him 1/2 an immodium last night.
