Cryosurgery/cryotherapy for Pets in SF Bay Area South Bay?

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • My Cosmo has a small lump in her ear. Took her to the vet and they took a sample of it. The vet called back and said the ctytology results seems to show its benign but can't say for sure that it is. Anyway, she said it's okay to remove it. However, my vet can only do it using anesthesia which I don't want to do. I asked about what about just freezing it then removing it. She said there are places that do that but their office doesn't. And she didn't know of any vets that do this (she's a new vet - she's only been in that office for about a month).

So, I wanted to check the B Forum to see if anyone knows of any Veterinarians in the SF Bay Area in the South Bay that does cryosurgery?

[For reference, Cryosurgery (cryotherapy) is the application of extreme cold to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue.]

  • Did you ever find a place that does this, if so what was your experience?

  • How about local anesthesia - Binti had a lump removed near a nipple with just local anesthesia - worked fine.

I didn't get this done. It eventually disappeared from her ear though I can't remember how long. I think I just keep putting an ice cube on that lump every so often.

When I checked about cryosurgery, Adobe Animal Hospital (in Los Altos) does this type of surgery and this place has a good reputation albeit expensive so it would help if you have pet insurance.

  • I'll check it out, thanks!

Yes, the test for Lyme disease is a blood test. It is a special test that is not in the regular panels– they usually run it separately, after they rule out other things. I hope your B is better! Did you find out what was wrong?

Well, your precious ones only have to have a rabies booster once every 3 years! Please tell all your friends in Wichita about the ordinance change – the newspaper buried the announcement in other animal-related information, I'm sure many pet owners in the city don't have a clue that they no longer have to booster every year. We use PetCare Insurance & considering how many times I've been to the Vet this year with one dog alone  I think it's SO worth it :) I also think that if (heavens forbid) your dog ever got into a serious injury that required surgery or long term care that would be insanely expensive. And most people would opt not to go through with it at the risk of losing their beloved dog. Like most insurance policies you're paying a premium for the potential possibilities that you'll need it one day…life insurance (I've been paying forever & every year I neve cash in LOL :D), medical insurance, homeowners insurance...etc.
