I have been in contact with the BRAT coordinator that handled Gracie and Britty in Texas. She thinks it may be that Britty is jealous of the bond that formed between Gracie and Deke. This seems to fit. Britty was alpha now Deke is alpha and Britty is the bottom of the pack….even Gracie pushes her around. We are going to work together to try to figure this one out. She is going to talk to a breeder/behaviorist. I have no idea how I can change their interaction but we will see. If we need to find her a new home away from the other two I guess we will do that. We will have to wait and see what the answer is....I really want Britty to be happy and the people in the house as well.

They do always act up a little when he leaves but usually settle down. They usually just fight more, like they're trying to rework the pack order. This is the longest he has ever been gone. I guess we just hang in there and hope he comes home early…it's tough on all of us.

Yes,,,,I know I need to change my name,,,,,,,thank goodness the "kids" havent seen it yet or they may think I only love two of the three of them,,,,,ha ha. Also, we have thought about fostering a BRAT dog. I am a teacher so I have the summers free. We decided to wait until after the spring though to sign up because my son is a senior and I am afraid the spring will be to crazy to try to help a BRAT dog that may have some issues. However, we would be open to the transporting. BTW , Senji, we are going to the Northwest part of IL (about 25 miles from Iowa) soooooooooooooo if you want us to make Czar our first transport that can be arranged!!! 🙂

I don't know if it makes a difference but Deke loves his crate covered. i put a blanket over it he can hear us but not see us. I think he feels safe(like a den). As a puppy he would cry until we covered it, then he'd quiet down. I don't know if that would help anyone or not.

usually that technique doesn't work with crate phobic dogs because they freak out so much they pull the cover in and eat it 🙂 been there, done that 🙂 Good idea though, for the not-so crate phobic dog.

Hello Basenji Boy. We are in Lancaster County. I haven't found many people who even know what a basenji is close by. I've talked to BRAT people in York but thats the closest.
