@serenjane My Kembe had the freckles on her neck - more pronounced in summer months w/ the sun and also as she aged. I use to call her my little 🦒 giraffe. 😂

@mryltis Read this comment from @morgansc within this post dated May 30, 2019, 7:49 AM. It answers your question. Ideally it is best to wait until age 24 months but no early than 18 months. https://basenjiforums.com/post/177284

    O
silly question, but would a non basenji be able to be tested? I know basenji crosses can be dna tested but what about other breeds? I ask this because in another breed I have there are a number of siblings and a dam who have all passed away with various kidney disorders. Different vets so no uniformity of diagnosis. We are now strip testing the remaining siblings but would be interested if we could rule out fanconi. thanks

When it comes to hips, what you really need to look at is the vertical pedigree. So you don't just look at the dogs directly behind the dogs being bred but also at the hips of their siblings and offspring. Some of the most prolific producers of HD in basenjis are themselves OFA Good. The problem with trying to research HD is that owners do not need to make abnormal results public so finding good public vertical data can be hard.

Clearly I haven't got stats on Basenjis in Congo, but my colleague has just come back from Basankusu (where the mentioned recently-imported dogs were found, unless I'm mistaken) and she has several photos of at least three separate packs of 6-8 dogs. Who all look much more like Basenjis than Delta ever does :)
