Basenji Mix in Myrtle Beach

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • My sister volunteers at the animal shelter in Myrtle Beach & just sent me this picture message:

He is a Basenji & pittbull mix. The picture isn't very good but she said he looks a lot more basenji in person than in this picture.

She said he is a sweetheart, loves walks & kissing girls  He is currently in the humane society vs. the pound so he won't be put down but has been here for several weeks [she said she thinks about 4-5 weeks]. He needs his forever home…

Just thought I would put this out there in case anyone in the area is interested. :) He is certainly a cutie!

  • how precious. i wish i could have another :(

  • Looks more pit to me? I don't really see the Basenji part

Yea that's what I said to her but she said she sees more Basenji in person. He has a tight curl tail like a basenji, although I know other breeds have these as well. I said the ears certainly look pit but I guess they told her the coloring is more basenji-esque as well. I don't know. I'll ask her to snap some better pics next time she is there, which I think is this Friday?

Could be, but there are many breeds and mixes that have the same coloring as a Basenjis… white chest, white feet are pretty common to lots of breeds...
but I hope he finds a great home

  • Boxers often (usually?) have the same color pattern.

    He is cute :)

I don't know…Keoki's ears look a lot like that when he is uneasy or really chillin' and getting a good butt rub. LOL

When Nala's ears are like that, I call it "the Flying Nun" position!

He's cute, whatever he is. I hope he finds his 'forever home".

Where are you located? There are actually a lot of options. Sadly, as of late, not a lot of basenjis being posted to BRAT. There are other rescues, including a great rescue for basenjis in Florida and California. Also, if you can't find a suitable rescue, please consider young and adults from breeders that they have decided don't fit their breeding plan. They also need and make great pets.

If funds are an issues, you can do what I used to do before BRAT came along. Find out the vet of the family your placing him with, have the family pay you for your expenses and then take the dog to the new familys vet for the surgery to be fixed. Drop the dog off the day of the surgery and then new owners pu the dog. They get to pay the bill. That makes sure the dog is fixed, sets up a new vet record for the new dog in the family, and you don't have to pay anything out of pocket. Mostly, you know the surgery WILL BE DONE. Thanks for making sure he is fixed before rehoming. That is so important.
