  • Hello All!
My name is Becky and my husband Josh and I are getting our first basenji soon! We are very excited!
He will be two years old in December and he is a beautiful trindle named Hooligan.
We had been looking for the right dog for us for what seemed like forever, then we discovered basenjis and fell in love right away!
This seems like a wonderful forum - I've been reading the posts for a while and have already gotten some great information from you all.
I'm looking forward to joining the basenji community and sharing pics of our boy! :)

    Cheers!

  • Congrats! Where are you getting him from?

    Jennifer

  • Welcome and enjoy! Hope you have both read up on what to expect. There are some owners real close to you and I'm about 60 miles West in Amherst. Been around them for 30 yaers and ought to know better but keep getting a new one.
    Dave

Hi :) Our boy Watson is from Laurel Basenjis in Poynette, WI. Are you active with the Basenji Club of Southeastern WI?

Mallia is the third Basenji we have the pleasure of having in the last 30 years. She is a female where as the first two were males.

@jinxed_1980: He doesn't like water… do you think nailing him with a water gun or spray bottle would be too mean? Never had a beggar b4 need help lol 90% of basenjis don't like water LOL and many of us use the spray/squirt bottles as training tools. These are considered non evasive training means and if perfectly harmless means. Best to give a verbal correction first of "AT AT" (yes right now he will ignore you) then squirt with the "AT AT", then he'll figure it out that you can just say the "AT AT" and if he ignores you like mine you should only have to just pick up the squirt bottle and he'll stop the naughty behavior. You can use the squirt bottle for just about any naughty behavior too other than begging, but try not to over use, try to use it more as you re-directive means after he is not working with alternate training techniques

First off, Welcome to our site of valueable Basenji information. I have learned so much linking into this site, we have lots of laughs as well. My B, Sahara, crosses her legs all the time, she is such a showoff and often has the regal queen look. I love the look myself, they are such beautiful dogs I must say, not that I am partial or anything. Your Piper is so cute, welcome again.

Hi Kiro, Welcome our neck of the woods. I live just a bit past Emmittsburg in PA so I'm not too far. The Mid-Atlantic Basenji Club meets at the Carroll County Agricultural Center right there in Westminster. Our next meeting is 1 June and there will also be a spring fun match that same day. It starts at 0900. There is a Yahoo group for the club that has info about the event. It's fun and games. It's really neat to see so many basenjis in one place. Hope you can make it. It's a nice club to belong to. Karen

@WriggleysMom: We've always had rescues and I feel like I've missed out on puppy antics, so I'm debating. Toby doesn't baroo or wag his tail and I really miss being met at the door with a welcome baroo and a tail trying to wag itself off!! I had a puppy and was getting the urge for another but now we have a 7-mo old foster and I can't take my eyes off her. I remembered I really did not miss that!
