RE: A face only a mother could love!
That is so cute. The other night Chumley was playing with Isis and getting up like that all across the room. My daughter and I were in hysterics.

RE: Doggie Dimensia?
I'm so sorry to hear this. My pit bull suffered from this, too. Its heartrending to see them like that. I hope the meds work.

RE: Violent lil girl!
Oh, my, she is beautiful! Sorry, i can't help with the crate training a Basenji, we never crated our Basenji. With my chihuahua puppies, I would use a pen with a bed, potty pad, food, water and some toys. All that energy cooped up in a tiny crate would be harsh on a puppy IMO. I have a wonderful pen, but being a basenji, you may need something bigger or with a top on it. Or pee pad an entire bathroom and let her loose in there, but you may run the risk of her teething on the cupboards, maybe once she's older. An x pen would be a great alternative, too. Being in her bed in your room seems to have helped at night. Best of luck with her.

RE: Naked basenji in the cold snow!
Brrrrrrrrrrr That is amazing, I know my old dog would have refused to step a foot in snow.

RE: Basenji rescued from pond in Colorado!!
Awww Poor baby. The two things basenji's hate most, cold and water. So glad it had a good ending and I hope he's none the worse for wear.

RE: Really, Queen Zola… Really?????
All my dogs have eaten grass, some have vomited, some don't. This article explains a little why they think they do it.

RE: WI-Menomonie-Male Basenji Mix with 3 Legs-In Foster Home though Shelter
Bless you, that's all I can say. Thank you so much for giving him a second chance to learn what a good home is. Most of my dos are special needs, they enrich my life so much as he will enrich yours. You are a wonderful person.

RE: Chumley "talking"
I have noticed another basenji trait this week, Chumley chewed up TWO dog beds. In the two years I've had this chihuahua rescue, only one bed had been holed by the dogs digging in it, and this week, Chumley ate up two beds. lol Got to love him.

RE: Sick Dog Question– help, please?!
Another lean meat is ostrich. I can find ostrich here a lot easier than bison, which I have never seen.

RE: Puppy NOT eating?
I've only had puppies here once, I was given a chihuaua/corgi mix rescue that had pups the next day. One ate at three weeks, but his brother waited an extra week to start. His brother always did things before him, I guess he just was maturing at his own schedule

RE: Chumley "talking"
Many of the traits you describe are the same in many dogs not just Basenjis…. could be that he is a B mix, but cute all the same.
Yeah, but all of them? I lived with a Basenji for 13 years. At first I was thinking he may be part pug, but then he started showing all these behaviors and I started thinking maybe he is a Basenji. I know, though, neither a chi or a pug talks like he does. He even baroo-ed once when I came in after shopping. If it bugs me enough, I will go get a DNA test. I did notice that most of the basenji mixes here have straighter tails and his curls pretty tightly..

RE: Chumley "talking"
He's a cutie! Do you run a doggy day care? Lots of cute dogs there.
Thank you. I have a small chihuahua and chi mix rescue. Most of them are special needs. Like Smoke, the blue and tan chi that came over and licked his face was poisoned when he was 4 months old and has some neurological deficits. Chumley has loose hips and may need surgery later in life. I just love doing rescue, it makes me happy.

RE: Chumley "talking"
@Shaye's:
He is adorable - quite a group you have there! My basenji/sheltie mix "talks" quite a lot when my PB annoys her, or when the cat is lying too near one of her toys - it's funny to listen to, she goes on and on. Whether he has basenji in him or not, the tail looks like it.
He also has many of the Basenji traits, he hates water, nips when he licks or plays, brings his paw up over his ear and down the side of his face when playing with my hand, hates the cold, prefers lying on the back or arm of the sofa, nips me in the butt to get my attention, table surfs, does a meercat stance to see over things or get my attntion, has a high prey drive, I had to watch him when I got my chihuahua puppy rescue and around my cats He's very smart, he learned on his own to use the dog door after watching my daughter's pit mix use it twice, and can be selectively deaf when he wants to. Except for his color and shape, he reminds me so much of the Basenji I grew up with. Except he walks like a dream and he is so friendly, that is the chi part of him. lol Oh, and he is a thief, too. If I take something for him, he will jump up and steal it back from my hand if I don't pay strict attention.

RE: Sick Dog Question– help, please?!
Best wish for Spencer, Im sorry it took so long to find. I hope he comes through the surgery with flying colors. I have had to pull the strangest things out of Chumley's mouth and I've only had him a month. Let us know how it goes, please.

Chumley "talking"
Chumley, being a mix, both talks and barks. Noisy llttle sweetie. Here's a little video. Isis had the toy he wanted. His talking is one of the things that leads me to believe he is part Basenji, along with his curly tail.

RE: Suggestions?
Is there any blood or spit on the dogs after the fights? I have chihuahuas, but believe me they get loud and snarky with each other and it sounds horrible and that they are killing each other, but then they are done, no one is hurt or even slobbered on and they are best friends again. It's like a dog thing and they actually look at me funny if I try to seperate them, so now I just let them go. As long as no one gets hurt.
