  • Raw Feeding?

Thank you all soooo much! You are so kind and I'm happy that I have your help :)
I already read and I have these two books:

Raw and Natural Nutrition for Dogs: The Definitive Guide to Homemade Meals - Lew Olson
Raw Dog Food: Make It Easy for You and Your Dog Raw Dog Food - Carina Beth Macdonald

From first one a learned a lot.

So, I will go to another Vet and hope that I would be lucky enough to find it better then previous ;)
If not I will keep on searching :D

For Umbical Herina I hope that this shouldn't be a problem; I massage her often and after that she is gone…
Today I add her some raw turkey and she loved it :) She haven't be crazy about her food since she came; I didn't change anything. She been fed by the same kibble from kennel but she never ate everything :(
    She likes yogurt though.

I suppose that I need to grind chicken backs and necks till she grows up? Or is it good enough just to chop in smaller pieces?

Also she don't have full black nose yet...some breeders told me that this is common and should soon fill with black :) What do you think?

@curlytails - yes, I now all about correct proportion RMBs, meat, organs, eggs, and supplements…I really have educated myself about all of this. But this Vet really upset me...she tried to explain to me how a dog wasn't suppose eat raw :S, how I'm risking her life. How dog that live in apartment are different metabolism from ones that live on village ?!? That dog are not supposed to eat meat! That dog are all eater like pigs!!

I know that everything can happen but I also know that raw bones aren't dangerous, only cooked ones. But I couldn't explain that to this Vet :(

As far as umbilical hernia goes I also know that is very rare that it needs to be "fixed" immediately" :) but she happens to cough me unprepared...she really frighten me. Awwww, I'm really mad at her :)
But I will go to another vet that has educated in USA and hopefully he will know about Basenjis little bit more, so I will see what he will tell me. Breeder was all friendly about it. He told me to massage her and that it should go away :)

Hi, please help :) I need your advice as experienced raw Basenji feeders :)
I got my Basenji girl yesterday and she is on kibble at the moment (she will be 10 weeks on Monday)…so I am planning to switch her on raw feeding. I've red two books about it and I can't wait to start BUT I went to veterinarian today and she sock me with some (stupid) advices; first of all I'm from Croatia and here this is still strange feeding :S
So, she tried to convince me NOT to feed raw; she said that there are 2-3 dogs per month who needs operation because feeding with bones :S and that this is dangerous! That chicken bones are dangerous...That I need a lot of supplements if I decide to do that..vitamins and calcium! I now for fish oil, some veggie bulk and eggs, garlic, apple vinegar..but calcium! :(

Also, she said that I need to go on urgent operation for umbilical hernia but I found out from friend of mine (Tisa thanks) that this is common for Basenjis :D

Please, give me advice about it. I suppose that all of this is not true?! :)

Hi again, here a some new photos :)

I'm going to pick her up on Friday :D …we are so excited and happy!

But, I'm worried about her nose (it isn't entirely black jet)
It is better then 2 weeks ago, but it's a small amount that is still pink. Should I be worried, or it would go black soon?

    @ampabra:

please check first if there is any demand for basenjis in your area.

    :) Thanks
I'll take it slow. This isn't like I'm going to have litter every year ;)
Mail point is to have girl and a boy, to have them as part of my family. When we decide to have a litter we'll register kennel and do it under FCI. What I'm trying to do is to create web site about Basenjis in Croatian where anyone who will be interested in a breed can learn about it on this web site.
Yesterday I found out that there would be a litter this year in Croatia, so after all I'm not the only one :D

Thanks all of you for your lovely words ;)

Tisa, I can't wait to meet you and your Loa!!

As I talk to breeder yesterday we will go to Austria 4th or 5th March to pick her up. So it's 21 day to go :(
    …it seems so long :o

Hi PiaMerete, yes :) I know all this :)

Unfortunately, AFRICAN DESTINY doesn't exist anymore. I'm planning to go to Croatian Kennel Club soon to find out more…but I'm pretty sure there isn't any active breeder in the recent years. I've try to contact every breeder on this list before and give up :(
But never mind anymore. We will register ourselfs as a Basenji breeder ;)

Of course I know that Banjoko is form Croatia :D I'm so happy because of the fact that Asali will return to the native land ;)

    @Tiva:

(just short welcome greeting in Croatian :D - dobrodosla i pozdrav od Rijecanke koja zivi u Ljubljani i od njezine basenjike)

Just short welcome back in Croatian :D - Hvala!!

    …it wasn't short after all ;)

I'm so glad that there is someone near Croatia with Basenjis. I was in contact with Tisa that has Loa http://www.anansi-loa.com/ I suppose you know her? :)

I really hope that we will meet soon. I really would like to talk and change experience with Basenji owners not only thru internet ;)
Tiva, do you go to dog shows? OOO, I'm so happy you are near! If you want we can change e-mails?

Yesterday I called my contact with breeder (he don't speak English so we have someone who translates :)) to ask her to find out when can I come for Asali. So, I'm waiting to know exactly when :(

At what age did you get your Basenjis? Is it at 8 weeks or do I need to wait till 9 weeks? What depends on when can we pick her up?

Thank you all!! You are such a sweethearts :)
Yes, she IS my avatar :)
You are so right, my days are soooo long :(
First we waited for puppies to be born and didn't know exactly are we going to get a girl like we imagine AND then, when she was born she was exactly what we wanted :D with white stripe on her forehead :D Amazing!!
Then, we had to wait to go and see her at the kennel ;) …it's was so hard to leave her there afterwards and go home with empty hands. Because we are far from each other the pictures and some video are all I have; I go thru her pictures daily
...you can call me crazy :D
It's like a waiting for third child, and even harder (because I already have kids :D:D:D)

Sorry if my english is bad...;)

Hi there, I'm new here :)
We expect our first Basenji female puppy in 3 weeks from now. We bought her from kennel in Austria.
Basenjis are very rare here in Croatia (Europe) so I'm kind of lonely here. I've tried everything to find someone with Basenji but had no luck. So, here I am, with you guys :D

We fell in love in one Basenji that lived close to my home at my parents. I've always wanted a Basenji and now finally I can have it. This Basenji has passed away last year at the age of 10 so officially I don't know anyone here in Zagreb or in Croatia who has one.
I have two girls (8 and 6 years old) so I hope I would have a good pack at home

Also, me and my husband decided to try and change situation here in Croatia and start a web page to introduce Basenjis with people here and we will get a male puppy soon and give it a try in breeding ;)

So, for know I just can wait to have our Asali (Zara) finally at home!
