@scraplover72 Oh my goodness. He is an absolute L-O-V-E.
And please don't waste your money on DNA breed testing. They, in fact, can NOT tell you anything for sure. They are simply recreational commercial exercises.
Enjoy your special boy!

RE: Two from the same litter?
I have three from the same litter: 2 boys and 1 girl. They have lived together since their first breath and they are now 10 and 1/2 years old. The boys are kept separate but the girl can be easily with either. This arrangement has never been a problem. In fact, each of the 3 are tightly bonded with the humans .... much more so than each other. But they live very easily with each other of different sex.

RE: Two blue eyes female Basenji
Anne, I hope she brings you much joy. Did she come through a shelter or through a breeder? That would help to know her story.
How old is she?
Please do share pictures.
Thanks.

RE: Usefulness of Wisdom DNA test for Basenjis
She is cute as a button! Enjoy her for who she is (not what she might be).

RE: Just received my 4 Months old Basenji
Sammm, are you the first placement home for Laika? It would be good information to know whether her breeder attempted previous placements for her and what happened there. This group is great about helping find solutions. Hang in there with her!

United Kennel Club (UKC) now has a Basenji breed parent club
I've just seen on FaceBook a new group dedicated to the American Basenji Club, which is the breed parent club for UKC.
Those of you on FB who are interested in UKC, here is the link :

Getting information about Basenjis from the magazine rack
Does anybody read and/or purchase the breed specific magazines sold in most pet shops and pet supply stores? For example: Dog World, Dogs USA, Puppies USA, Dog Fancy.
When you got your Basenji, did you seek out information about the breed in any of these kinds of magazines?
Did any of these magazine have any value to you when you were looking for information about Basenjis? If so, in what way?
Do they now? -

New theory of dog domestication
I thought some of you might enjoy this little clip taken this morning of my Paya (AKC registered basenji : Lukuru na Liboso Mopaya) watching the Oscar nominated short film - "Adam and Dog" (film by Minkyu Lee).
I'm sharing my video because I think it is sort of ironic that my girl Paya (6 years old) appears to be totally engrossed in this little video.
I won't even begin to go into all the things that are wrong with this depiction of the "first dog."
But my Paya, who was born in the very heart of the Congo, seemed to be rather perplexed by the new theory of dog domestication.

RE: My two loves
Such a wonderful image of basenjis in general and your two special pups specifically. You were SOOOO lucky to catch that instant. The perfect storm came together for you as a rainbow.
Well done. -
RE: Brindle stripes
@Shaye's:
God bless you! I think I'd have a heart attack if mine spread a permanent pool of ink on the carpet and perfect little prints all over the rest of my stuff! You laughed - few would, and you have to have the most forgiving heart I've ever heard about. It's funny, for sure - but only because it happened to somebody else, not me!
There was nothing to forgive. She wasn't being malicious. She was just being herself …. a Basenji.
The truth is that after I found the situation and took her picture, I scooped her up and showered her with kisses. She is just so cute. She is irresistible. I'll try to post the picture ....
We have six basenjis that live with us. So, the couches are covered. I had to replace the covers. And as for the carpet .... just a bit of creative moving of the furniture made fast work covering the worst spot.
The only real lasting evidence was the lines she drew on herself. They eventually grew out. -
RE: The Wonderful Myths you hear about the Basenji's
No, it's Sanda. Her kennel name is Africanadian Basenji's. The website is africanadian.net and her email should be on there. It took about 2 min for the page to load, but you can probably see her address there.
Thank you. I found it.

RE: The Wonderful Myths you hear about the Basenji's
Jo, you can contact Sanda Allen for info on Father Titus who gave a speech at the BCOC Regional specialty re the lion part of this.
Okay. Thank you! Did you mean Sandra or Sanda? Do you have a website for her contact or a kennel name?

RE: The Wonderful Myths you hear about the Basenji's
1 Basenji were used for hunting lions, people killed the lions. The dogs would systematically run confusion patterns around the cat teasing and frustrating them. At a given opportunity the man would jump out from hiding and stick a spear into the lion.
4. The Basenji is the first dog in recorded history to have a relationship with man. (AKC) Carbon dated cave paintings Zaire 6,000BC depicting small dogs with curly tails, stick up ears and four white feet. Earley Egyptian Hieroglyphics depicting Nubian Slaves in retinue leading a pair of Basenji following chieftains wearing caftans arriving from the east bering gifts for Pharo.
ElfinSailor, I am interested in these two statements. Can you tell me the source of this information? Or if you have some website link, published reference, or expert that provided this information ….. please share.
Thank you!!!!
