  • Animal Planet coming to Clearwater FL
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

I saw a local commercial for Animal Planet, that they were coming to Coachmen Park June 16th - 17th 10am - 4pm both days
they said there will be lots of events and dogs on leashes are welcome :3
maybe some B owners would like to make it down there? :3
    just an idea!

  • Things to do with your dog
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

I like to be active in the lives of my pets
Duo, my cat, doesn't like to do much but we have our time at night, before bed
she happily cuddles up with me, we share our feelings for each other and curl up to sleep

I was looking for things I'd like to do with Bindi, see what we can and can not do
a few years back I saw a show on Animal Planet, K9 Karma and I want to get in shape, make my life healthier I also thought of Lure
I love to run with her and we have a 2 mile trail around a lake near by
I figured we could run there <3

what does everyone hear do with their dogs/animals?

(here's the link to the K9 Karma show http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/k9karma/k9karma.html)

  • Does your Basenji go umph?
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

my boyfriend is the same way, he thinks she barks, she doesn't bark, she makes a quick short yip-ish sound and thats that, no more till some other thing catches her attention she mostly does it at the cat, that's it

  • I'm back!
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

indeed, thanks everyone! I'm just so happy I can finally have Bindi time :3
she's been going outside everyday, I catch her as she looks like she's about to, she even goes to the door on her own now and whines a little <3 yay!
unlike before she's just go where ever because the other dogs did, she's got bigger dogs to play with now who are way better behaved
she's got tones of room, her own toys, and she can just chill if she wants

I'm still braking her of going on the couch, she mostly does it when I leave the room to get food or go to the bathroom, same with the bed
it's mostly my fault because I left something where she can get it or the cat jumps up to get away from her lol they are so cute together

  • I'm back!
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

sorry I went poof for about a week or so
had an issuse with my roommate
I had been planing to move out, as some of you know
and I arranged to have the big furniture moved so it would be easier
when I actually moved out, plus my mom had the room

well my friends show up with their jeep and we pack up the bed, Bindi and my cat; Duo, I wanted the animals to have a night at my mom's to see how they would do, I said this before taking them
I told her, 'I'm taking Bindi to my mom's for the night to see how she does, we're having a sleep over' and I packed up my bed

so, she flipped! she ran out of the house, not before she could list off things to tell me to her son (my coworker and other roommate) and I didn't see her again
Max, her son, walks in while we're taking the bed apart to move it, says 'we need the key back,'
I was confused and just baffled by this act, why take the key? I still live there until April… not wanting to cause a big fuss, I hand it over, trying to look like a civil person but not with out a weary look and a big drawn out 'oh kay.....' and he says, 'call us before you come over from now on'

so we unload the bed and I'm stuck at my mom's house with a dog, a cat and a bed that has been taken apart
no clothes, no food, nothing seeing as I am no long able to get into 'my house I live in'

I go over it with my mom and she says I've just been evicted and don't owe them squat and I should get all of my stuff out tomorrow and talk to them about the money they are also demanding from me

so I talk to Max the next day and I'm like 'um, so why did you kick me out last night? as you can see I'm still in my clothes from yesterday and unwashed, I only moved my bed and my animals because I wouldn't get another chance until after I moved out in April, and by the looks of it, your having a hard time dealing with Bindi, I thought it only a favor to let her stay at my mom's until I moved out'

he looked shocked, honestly shocked, like he had no clue what I was doing and with out his mom to tell him what to do, she just starred at me
'I thought you were leaving last night, we needed the key if you weren't coming back' I looked at him shocked this time and said, 'my stuff is still here....why would I leave it?' so long story short, I did move out, but only because I was kicked out too early and I would only pay for the days I lived there, which ended that day

so now I'm at mom's with a happy puppy who loves her new big yard and new big dog friends and I'm loving the free space myself, no one bothers me and I am welcome to engage in conversation and not to, if I so choose <3
I also just got the internet cables strung in my room so that took some time too

but now I'm back and we're all happy!

  • New Puppy Needs
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but I've seen with hard wood floors, that it seems to eat the wood when a dog piddles on it, my mom's hard wood floors have very dark stains from pet messes and we can't get rid of them
I think also she didn't use the right cleaner
I too, use Nature's Miracle and it does work very well
also I got the Bitter Barrier to spray on plants Bindi keeps trying to eat
    it works well too

  • Eating Dirt
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

    @tanza:

Eating grass can and does also indicate problems however… When my Kristii had a blockage in her gut, she ate grass and hurled like crazy..... so if they are doing it all the time.... Time to check it out...
But most of the time it is nothing... like everything else, you need to consider all the facts.

my mom's larger dogs eat grass all the time, only rarely do they puke it back up, thats when we found out, grass can be good for the dog, not just an expectant

  • Itchy ears?
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

    @tanza:

Baby puppies can get ear infections… and dirty itchy ears.... if you look in her ears or gently wipe with a tissue, is there dirt that comes out?....

no, like I said before, not very dirty at all, they don't smell, it doesn't hurt when I touch them or look in them, she's also stopped a bit, it may have been a one time thing, some bug or such XD aw well I figured I'd ask all the same hehe

  • Cartoon basenjis
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

my cat is the one who wants to type, or get me off to snuggle with her
so when Duo the cat, is in my lap on the computer, Bindi comes by and wants to be up there too! mostly to play with kitty <3 hehe so far I try to keep her away from my other love, electronics <3

    ~Kat

  • Itchy ears?
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

I noticed Bindi trying to get at her ears today, she seems a bit frustrated with them and was pawing at them a lot, as if something was in them
I know dogs ears get dirty just as ours do, so I looked in and so hardly anything, could it be ear mites? I know they are really small and hard to see with the naked eye

she didn't mind my holding her ears or when I gently rubbed them on the inside to see if it would help her itching, maybe she just couldn't reach the spot? but it continued after that, she also didn't fuss or whine so I don't think it's an infection

any ideas or is this something common?

  • Long Drive tonight…B Gets Carsick
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

I used Rescue Remedy for my stress, my roommate has a spray she sprays on her dogs butt when he chews it raw to make him stop, I think she's doing it wrong, but whatever, not my dog to worry about

Bindi has only gotten car sick once, and it was because it was really hot (Florida here) and she had just eaten (bad idea on my part) and wouldn't sit still so she got jerked around a lot

I find it helps to talk to her, pet her, calm her down, crack the windows or throw on the AC, play soft music (at least Bindi likes soft music) I also gives her treats when she sits and lays down which distracts her
most of the time she wants to just sit in my lap, but she can't because I am driving

(P.S. I drive a stick by myself, so keeping her at bay, petting, making her sit, feeding her treats, etc. all while shifting is an ordeal LOL I need to get her a seat belt)

P.P.S. Peppermint and Ginger are two good natural remedies for an upset stomach, if you can find a way for the dog to ingest them, it should help too

  • Bleeding Gums???
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

yes, bleeding is some what ok in the first few months of any dog's life
I noticed when I gave Bindi her first rope toy, it was pink for a little while
one, she hadn't chewed on anything that wasn't really soft, so it gave less then a stuffed toy and more force was put into chewing on it so some blood showed up
    two, she's teething hehe

if you see more then pink, like a lot of red, then you may want to keep an eye on the chewing, it maybe be the toy or whatever cut the gums a bit, you may want to switch to a different toy, also it could be gingivitis which I think they have medications for, you'll have to ask the vet

but by the sounds of you saying 'puppy' the dog is just teething

  • Eating Dirt
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

    @jenwilson:

Hey Terry & Jojo!! This is new to me too. Hollie will eat certain types of grass, and it's not to make herself throw up. I guess it's veggies to her.

grass doesn't just make them puke, grass is good for the digestion and when they have an upset stomach it helps, but most of the time, it's like how we chew on gum all day :3

  • Pass It Along: Great Doggie Items
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

    @spitfirekrl1:

firefoxkatan - Those types of ropes are good ropes, I got a rope ball once…
that was like a giant knot and the fringes came out in all directions making it look like a big fluffy ball. She LOVED it but it was torn to shreds in days and it was ALL over the place. I'm still finding peices of it months later...never again. Here is a link to a really cool rope ball though that looks a little sturdier...

    http://www.amazon.com/PetstagesTM-Rag-Rope-Ball-Dog/dp/B000BO3DZ4

that one looks really cool! I bet Bindi would love it
I couldn't find an image of the tennis ball rope toy I have so I found one that was closest, it's got two balls a rope going threw them, the knots are tied really close to the balls and there's just enough space in between for her mouth :3

P.S. and when I bounce it on the ground it goes flipping and flopping in crazy directions hehe it's fun to watch her chase it

  • Male or Female
    firefoxkatanF firefoxkatan

well then, gender aside, get a dog you feel comfortable with, I went into a house full of boy dogs and only one girl, my Bindi, who was taking them down and being really playful but getting her point across, like have only older brothers to look up to, the younger sister will try her hardest to be as big and bad as her older brothers :3 I think it's cute and endearing <3 I think that's why I liked Bindi, she's got spunk!
