Both of our litters were born December 10, 2012!

Bindi - 3 Red/White Girls and 2 Black/White Boys

Blaze - 2 Tri Boys, a Red/White Girl, and a Red/White Boy

He's a beautiful dog but I do not see any Basenji in him. His ears are adorable and really give him character. =)

Do you have any photos of him standing up, a side view?

I forgot to mention that all colors can have blackish towards the tips at times. The hair gets "crumbly" and can be rubbed off. I do not know why this happens to some dogs but I think it may have to do with indoor dryness.

Great news on the health results.

Shadow's inside ears are black/black-Johnny's are not. Could this be an indication?? Johnny's are black on the top part, going down to pinkish/grey on the bottom canal. Anyone else notice anything on their black dogs' ears?

I don't think it is conclusive about his genetic color. Reds and tris are usually pinkish on the inside, blacks are usually dark inside though I have seen some with both black and pinkish inside. Brindles can have specks inside the ears.

I took the girls for their sonograms today. They are both confirmed pregnant with at least 5 puppies each.

I have seen some of what you are describing, particularly with this reddish-brown color mixed with the black and usually on the back leg .

A sprinkling on the back of the hind legs can sometimes mean that the dog carries the "fula" gene. I don't think this is the case with Johnny.

A long-time Basenji breeder told me a long time ago that if you can see a reddish cast on a dominant black in bright sunlight then it means it can produce red puppies. I do not know if there is any research to verify this though. I have seen the reddish cast but I have not seen the brindlish cast that Johnny has. It is interesting.

To be honest with you, I have no idea what Johnny is genetically. It was once thought that if you breed a black to a tri you could not get red puppies. It wasn't supposed to happen but it was quickly disproven. It was also once thought that breeding a black to a brindle could not produce an offspring that was both black and brindle. This has also been disproven.

Logically, Johnny is either black/black, black/black/tri, black/red, or black/red/tri and should not be able to produce brindles or trindles but as we see in the above examples, there is always a chance logic can be disproven.

They both look fantastic :)

Rainie's hip OFA certifcate came today. He's rated "Good". I figured he would be as his hips were tight and smooth in the x-rays.

Hush! I don't want 2 huge litters! Two normal sized litters are fine though I would love to have a nice selection of black/white girls that I can choose from. And you would be more than welcome to come visit and socialize puppies. :)

I always do photos weekly of my pups, as long as I have a photographer anyway. I normally post them on my website but I'll let you guys know so you can watch the critters grow.

I have loved Zen since I first saw him as a baby. The fact that he is black and white made him even more attractive. It has been a few years since I had any black/whites and I have my fingers crossed for a black/white girl from this breeding. =)

Arlene should have black/whites, too. It's going to be a colorful year!
