I am trying to locate a photo of the canine genome. The double helix with full colour and letters. This is for a tattoo up my spine.

RE: My Very Clever Girl…
Basenjis will never be able fix a sump pump…. they need opposable digits.

RE: My Very Clever Girl…
Mine do something similar. Except for the empty thing. Low or dirty water warrants the same response. Nothing better than mopping up because there was a piece of kibble floating in their otherwise pristine water.
They'll roll in cow feces, but won't eat soggy kibble?

RE: The Critter adventure
Don't have turtles in Idaho, but other nasty things. I was walking with my pack in the foothills and a coyote popped up over the ridge. It surprised all of us. Mahendra was out front and he was the first to encounter the 'yote. Both of them froze and were checking each other out, wondering what to do.
Fortunatly, Mahendra charged and the 'yote ran off.

Grumpy old man drinking his own pee
Moses, my 15 yo male, has started to drink his own pee. Not the whole puddle but a couple of laps, then he walks off. Last December his blood work showed he is producing immature red blood cells.
Is his pee making up for minerals or salts he is no longer getting from producing mature blood cells?

RE: Dreaming and nightmares
Not sure if she dreams but I do know that for a small go she sure can take up alot of room under the covers.
How can such a small animal give you the last 4 inches of the bed?

RE: Dreaming and nightmares
When I walk mine in the foothills and my oldest gets lost, he does that eerie howl.

Dreaming and nightmares
Those of us that sleep with our basenjis have, no doubt, observed them "running" or whimpering, growling, yodeling or what ever other crazy noises they make.
One night one of my basenjis was "running" and growling. I guess my foot got too close and was incorporated into the dream/nightmare. One of my basenjis clamped on to it and shook it.

RE: Play Biting is getting out of control any ideas?
My first basenji must have gotten the stubborn gene twice. No matter what I did she would bite hard. Not hard enough to break skin, but hard enough you know you got bit.
I started biting her back. The ears, tail and belly are the most sensitive. I chomped on her 2 or 3 times and her bite was a good deal more gentle.
Though she got me back. After that, she started waking me up to go out by standing on my chest a jabbing my eye socket with her snout.
I slept on my side for years.

RE: Toy suggestions
I use "cow knuckles" from the butcher, these keep them amused for a couple of hours. You need to examine their poop though. Some basenjis will get the trots. If this occurs- bad idea.
My youngest will gather all of them up and hide them in my bed. Icky.
My first Basenji would hoard and bury them. Amusing. She would have one out and if the other 2 took it, she would simply go dig a fresh one up.
The grab bag at second hand stores have stuffed animals. This kept my first 2 amused. They would eviserate them.
I had one of those "magic cubes" that you stuff treats in and when it knocked about the treats fall out. That lasted about 2 weeks. They figured out that if they broke it all the treats came out.
One of those big yoga balls with peanut butter smeared on it kept 2 of my 3 amused for a couple hours.

RE: Newbee from Michigan
Another thing you should consider is a sighthound (basenjis, pharao hounds, ibizans, whippets, afgahns) sitting co-op. You go out of town, someone sits for you; they go out of town you sit for them.

RE: New to the forum and looking for 2nd basenji!
I got a 15 week old puppy when my female was 8 and my male was 5. Both were happy to have a puppy around. They all spent hours chasing each other and the squirrels in the back yard around.
Fortunately my puppy didn't pick up my female's habit of digging up the back yard.

RE: Newbee from Michigan
I have lost 2 good friends it's tough. Yet I keep getting more basenjis, a life with them is well worth it!
Have you looked at BRAT (Basenji Rescue and Transport)? They do have Basenjis younger than 1 year. BRAT also has good information about the breed.
You can do a search for "Dogs in Elk". This will give you an inkling of what you can expect to face.
The "3 foot rule" is something you need to get in a habit of following. If something is under 3 feet it will get eaten.
Most cats and Basenjis will make a pact. The cats get the high ground and the Basenjis get the floor. Though I had a room mate with 3 cats and one of them was a huge Maine Coon. My Basenjis and the Coon would wrestle and the cat would end up getting tossed about on the hardwood floors like a hockey puck. When the cat hard enough, he would get up slap the Basenjis and walk off.
Is your current vet experienced with Basenjis. Some vets out here in Boise absolutly will not deal with Basenjis.

Thought a locomotive was in my bedroom
I was just woken up by a horrific sound. The walls of my house were shaking and I thought it was going to vibrate of its foundation.
Turns out it was my youngest male. He was fast asleep. And snoring. I didn't think such a small animal could be so voluminous in his sleep.

RE: Frustration: Basenji lovers must read
Basenjis aren't pretentious; they simply don't associate with beings who are their mental inferiors.

RE: Frustration: Basenji lovers must read
You should have sent Shango home with her. Her opinion would have changed after her sofa was masticated, clothes eaten and the contents of her refrigerator were strewn about her house in a reckless and half eaten manner.

RE: Producing immature red blood cells
Vet said that he might experience fainting spells. I'm assuming that if blood is unhealthy, it can't do its job properly. Things like carry oxygen, nutrients and toxins to the appropriate organs. I'm hoping the best case is he will go from unconsciouness to death.
He got hit by a car about 10 years ago and got his pelvis screwed back together. Other than that he gets around fine.
thanx

RE: Mansa Musa, Shankara Narayana and Tzonga
Mansa Musa is Arabic for "King Moses". Mansa Musa was the 13th Century King of Mali and made Timbuktu the financial, art, scientific capitol of North Africa. When he made his pilgrimage to Mecca he took a thousand slaves all dressed in silk. When the travelled thru Egypt the slaves handed out so much gold that it was devalued for the next couple of years. I got Moses when he was 2 and kept his name.
Shankara Narayana was a 10th century Indian mathematician who wrote commentaries on the Chinese theories on the place value system. Shankara also pushed for acceptance of the Hindu-Arabic numeric symbols (the 0-9 we use today), wrote on the significance of the zero and the functions of sine and cosine. Shankara was puppy mill stud and didn't have a name.
When I wanted a 3rd basenji, my wife at the time, wanted tri puppy named Sonya. So I spelled it a little differently.
