Just curious - is there an actual lump/lipoma somewhere on your b that can be felt or was noticed on any type of x-ray?
Yes, he has several lipomas.

Online, there are several possible issues that can cause elevated platelet count:
Thyroid
Hemolytic Anemia
Pyrovate Kinase (PK)
Giardia
…but I can't find any illnesses that only exhibit that one spike by itself.
I would think that you would have found that he was a bit anemic… and I would be concerned with the change to being more tired... along with the soreness....
Yeah, he has me worried, yet it doesn't make sense that only the platelet count would be odd in the CBC.
Yes, the vet said everything else is w/i normal limits.
Hello~~I'm new here, though not new to basenjis.
I have a 10 year old n/m rescue that is showing a high platelet count; platelets look normal, just way elevated numbers. My rural vet doesn't see any other basenjis besides mine and didn't have much to say about this, other than "it might be a bone marrow issue" and felt we could proceed with a scheduled surgery for lipoma removal.
Just wondering if anyone has seen this and what might be the cause?
He has been a little on the tired side the past few months and he has some soreness in his back and neck sometimes.
Thanks for any thoughts!
