I would try crating your dog at night. I have a basenji that is 1 yr and 2 months old. I have had her since she was a puppy. When I first got her I put her in her crate at night and she would cry....a lot. After a few weeks she was use to going in her crate. Now she runs and gets in her crate when I say “it’s time for bed”. In the morning, when I let her out she usually lays there until she is ready to get up. Also, to get her use to her crate, I give her a dog training treat when she gets in and have made sure the bedding is comfortable. I hope this helps.

When to stop crate training
Hi all,
I am a first time owner of a basenji. I crate my 8 month old pup when I am at work. I normally come home at lunch to let her out for 30 min. When can I start leaving her out while I am at work? She doesn't chew on furniture because I give her bully sticks while I am home. She did pee on my bed 2 weeks ago while we were playing. Normally she goes to the door when she needs to go. Is she ready for more freedom during the day? -
RE: Running with Basenjis...at what age?
Thank you all for your advice...I have been running 2 miles with her and working on her leash skills ...she is getting better about pulling. She is a very friendly basenji, she always want to say hi to everyone. !

RE: Running with Basenjis...at what age?
@tanza I haven't been running in awhile but I normally top out at three miles. I definitely won't try to run my basenji this far though. I was thinking about starting at a mile. I haven't talked to her breeder yet.

Running with Basenjis...at what age?
I have an 8 month old basenji that loves taking walks. Lately she has been trying to run on leash. Is she old enough to start running with me? I have read a lot of forums that differ in age requirements for running. If she is old enough, what is a safe distance that won't put too much strain on her joints/growth plates?
