Awwww - poor girly! I've experienced the frantic running & cramming & it was terrible - scared me & I didn't know how to help. Of course my situation was different, but Trinity did the same thing nonetheless. Zoni - I liked her - she was keen on my Denver for a minute - made me smile. I hope things get better for you both soon.

RE: Lost basenji in New Philadelphia, Ohio
Good thought Bart - you're right - seems not a lot of people know what a basenji is.

RE: Basenjis sleep in the strangest positions
Haha! Funny stuff. Sometimes Denver feels the need to tromp all over Trinity….

RE: Adverse reaction to vaccinations
Yes, it is a learning process… just like our own health... and you are right Holly... it is a learning experience... we are all conditioned to believe what we are told by doctors.. and Vets... but in reality, we all need to research on our own...
Case in point... my Kristii (to be 15 in December) is in renal failure.... her RBC was down to 18%.... while SubQ fluids have moderated her kidneys to a reasonable level... she was still very anemic... there is a hormone produced by the kidneys that is directly connected to RBC's. So her Vet recommended a hormone replacement.. however one possible side effect is that she can develop antibodies and if that happens it will be totally not effective. I asked a couple of people that I know that are Vet Techs in Specialty Clinics and ER hospitals... and received info about a different hormone that has much less of a chance to produce/develop antibodies... I gave that info to her Vet... she had not heard of it... but was very thankful for the info... and said, yes that would be a better choice...
By the way, her RBC is up to 40% which is up to the excellent range and now only on SubQ fluids 2x's a week and doing really well.. she has gained almost 2 1/2 lbs... and eating well (home cooked food..ggg)...
Sometimes I think some of you all should be the vets! You definitely own a great wealth of knowledge about the breed.

RE: Adverse reaction to vaccinations
It was. I didn't know what was going on for sure - I was scared her throat was going to close up or something. And to see her tail completely uncurled for those few hours - she even bellowed out a couple of pained howl-cries I've never heard before…makes me want to cry just thinking about it! So yes, please be aware of what your vet is up to - apparently their agenda doesn't always include your baby's best interests...

RE: Oden Sickness
Good to read a happy ending to this story - I chuckled when I read your deal with the temporary constipation. Trinity became constipated for a minute when she had the runs for about a week - I was ecstatic when it all stopped, then became upset again when nothing came out. And yes, not much worse than feeling responsible for causing your B's pain…

RE: Lost basenji in New Philadelphia, Ohio
Hi lish312 -
Any luck yet? First I've seen this post - haven't been on here much lately. I too am from Ohio & will keep my eyes & ears open, if she's still missing - so sorry to hear about this…

RE: Car watching
Oh my - Trinity watches everything - from people to birds to cars to bugs - goes nuts over motorcycles & birds & will practically choke herself on her collar while trying to chase a passing car. Funny, I'd thought all Bs were watchers & that my Denver was just a bit different, although he will embarrass me when he does not stop staring at someone - like he's glued to the ground. Sometimes the 2 are so insistent, their leash pulling will result in a standing-on-hind-legs position & they still won't budge…

RE: Adverse reaction to vaccinations
Yes, thank you all indeed for your answers & kind words - it was scary. Tanza, thank you for the rush of relief. I was wondering if she would have to be revaccinated. What a bunch of crap! To have to pay for her shots, an emergency visit that should have never been & a possible revaccination - and of course this was the same vet who told me to put snarky little Denver down after 3 bites. sigh These shots were her 1st boosters & looking back through our 1st vet's shots history, he did everything right - no wonder he's 2X the cost! There is so much to learn - and the more I learn from you all & the experiences, the more I find out I don't know! It's so frustrating when hindsight is 20/20. I always thought having a pet was a piece of cake - so unprepared for things gone wrong. I'm glad I've helped open up some awareness - lvoss, thank you for the links. I've read several different articles which state the same things you did about this vaccine - doesn't fully protect & I'm understanding although Lepto is deadly, it can be knocked out with antibiotics - as one person had stated in an online post - she would rather have an infected animal urinate in her dog's mouth than to have this vaccine administered - gross, but puts things into perspective. Anyway, thanks again - it's always comforting to know I can find wonderful support within this forum.

Adverse reaction to vaccinations
Hi -
I'm a bit of a mess over what has happened within the last 24 hours & need to hear what anyone may know or suggest. I took Trinity to the vet yesterday evening to see about the large amounts of goo in her eyes. Well, that wasn't even a real issue & the vet suggested we give her the yearly booster shots since she was due in October anyway. I agreed, telling the assistant I did not want to oveload her little body with a bunch of stuff & to administer only what was safe. I trusted them, had no reason not to, especially since her first round a year ago had happened without incidence. When I came home, Denver was a mess - peed everywhere & was going crazy. I was so pre-occupied with cleaning up the mess - carpet, crates - that I didn't notice anything strange going on with Trinity. She ate dinner just fine, but shortly after, she began to frantically run around the house, roll around on the floor, scratching, whining…I looked at her & the area where the shot had been given was quite swollen. I watched her for a minute & within that minute, her face swelled up & she broke out into serious hives. The nearest emergency clinic is legally about 40 minutes from my house & I made it there in 30. They took her to the back & fixed her right up. About an hour later, her lumps & bumps were gone, just a swollen face. It was so bad the people there swore she was part shar pei. She was out for a while & like another post on here, went spastic about 4 hours later. Her temp. was 103.4 - gave her 10 mg of hydroxyzine & stood her in a tub of lukewarm water - evened things out quite nicely & she was asleep an hour later. Today she is back to stealing dish towels & running the B500. The emergency vet frowned on the lepto vaccination & after researching what it's about, I understand why. I'm very angry about my naiveness & about the negligent vet. Why are they jamming all of these shots into dogs at one time? I'm concerned about what may come from this lepto vaccination - I've read of several cases of kidney failure, resulting in death, even a couple of days later. Not very many good reviews on the internet about this suff. I'm very worried about Trinity. Can anyone tell me she'll be okay? Or should I be concerned, even though she seems okay? I have never experienced such an unyielding feeling of panic.
