What determines the kennel name that will be used? The dam?

RE: So I caught a guy kicking Booger…
Yikes!! That guy owns a dog?! How awful. I hope you and your pooch are ok.

RE: Basenjis near Worcester, MA?
I live in MA near the Fitchburg area. If anyone is doing a meet-up there, let me know. I'd love for Darwin to play with other Basenjis!

RE: Hello from West Texas
I love how straight they keep their legs when sleeping! Beautiful dogs.

RE: Tail curl
Darwin keeps his coiled most of the time. He lets it droop when he's getting a particularly good belly rub and when he's otherwise relaxed.

RE: Nipping when we leave
My B does that too. We have gates up and some times we step over them rather than swing them open to leave. We've gotten nipped on the butt! I've started getting him used to sitting and staying as I leave the room, and treating and praising him when he stays calm. It's been working petty well. Good luck!

RE: Embarressed…...
My husband and I knew that our next door neighbor was going through a divorce around Christmas time. Over the past years we've occasionally helped each other with letting each others dogs out. So, we knew she liked dogs, but we weren't particularly close. We wanted to spread a little kindness, so we all (B included) brought cookies to her. She wanted us all to come and have a cookie with her. I realized that Darwin was being awfully quiet and looked over at him in time to see him lift his leg and proceed to pee all under her tree all over her Christmas presents!!!

RE: Coffee Addict
Darwin's never tried to get into my coffee, but he's definitely the type of B that wants to stick his face in our glasses. Apparently water tastes better when you push your human out of the way and steal it!

Patroling
Any other Bs out there like to "patrol" while eating? Darwin picks up a mouthful of food and then walks around the kitchen checking out the state of things. Also, he likes finish chewing his food over one of us. Foot, lap, whatever. Naturally I find his unique behavior completely charming!

RE: My B almost died last night, and I didn't know what to do…..
Thank you for the link. I'm so glad your dog is ok. I have given our a lot of rawhide over the years, and I guess he's been lucky!

RE: What my B did while I was at work on Friday
Lol. Aren't they just the best dogs!

RE: Q-Tip obsession
I love the Q-tip obsession! We discovered a hilarious game…my husband goes on one side of a closed dog and Darwin and I are on the other. then my husband drags the Q-tips around under the door or randomly pokes it out. Darwin goes crazy trying to get the Q-tip!

Funny faces
Hi all,
My B had a really beautiful litter mate with very unique markings. (I got him 4 years ago in N.H.) I haven't seen another like her. She looked kind of like a lion…white evenly around her nose like cheeks. Just wondering if anyone out there has a "lion" or if your B has a funny face. Love to see pics

RE: Am I losing my mind!!
I have had good luck with a clip on only one of the latches. We realized we needed one when some scratching at the door in the middle of the night revealed a lonley Basenji trying to sneak his way into bed with us! My dog "punches" at his crate door and the one clip has stood the test.

RE: Digging
I love this site! Finally an answer to all my dog's quirks…he's a Basenji! I thought maybe my B was digging the couch and carpet because he got the scent from his behind on it and he, too, was offended! Is it just a breed thing?

RE: Boarding Cali
I have boarded my little boy twice and will try to avoid it in the future. The first time we took him to a large "chain" kennel that had a really beautiful facility. The second time we tried a home based operation. My concern is that he was too stressed by the experiences. He lost weight the first time and had a case of diarrhea when he came home the second time. Also, since we boarded him he growls and has bitten me a couple of times. The last time I went away I left him with my mother (who had no experience with dogs before then) and he was a happy healthy dog when I returned. I hope your B does better with the seperation anxiety than mine did!

RE: Kiora's Bathing Adventure
My B spends almost as long licking himself clean as I did giving him the bath!
