Pearl used to be aggressive when she was asleep and we tried to move her. She would snarl, rather scary. We just stopped trying to move her. Really we wanted to roll her over to pet her tummy. So we just went over and let her know we were there, and pet her without moving her. She grew out of it, I guess, cause now she kind of rolls over by herself. I lover her so much!

RE: I saw another Basenji walking in my neighborhood!
I really hope to see these people again. I will take pearl on walks that way and hopefully see them.
Pearl really likes to stay on our cul-de-sac. I believe she feels its her territory. How funny, she is still undomesticated in many ways. Just one of the reasons I love her so much.
It is exciting to other Basenjis, they are rare!

I saw another Basenji walking in my neighborhood!
And I couldn't believe it. She was red (rust?) and white! I was able to stop my car and speak to the owners. I told them about my Pearl. This B was their 2nd one, a rescue, the first passed away.
I was so excited! I wish Pearl was more dog friendly, I would love to see if they could get along. But alas, Pearl is not easy to get along with. I still love her!

RE: UGH! Bad ending to a bad day!
That sounds like it, this has happened before, she wants away from me and back to the othe dog. I don't think she wants to hurt me, she wants away.
I can do almost anything to her, she trusts me and loves me, but that instict kicks in.

@AJs:
Did Pearl slip her leash?
Sorry to hear about your rough day. Hope it gets better.
Thanks! She got away from me and a young neighbor girl walked her and Pearl gort away frome her, pulled to hard and the girl let go of the leash, Pearl is a pretty strong girl!
The neighbor has a very mean dog who has attecked almost every dog on our cul de sac, but since I got Pearl, that dog has gone blind, cateracts.

RE: UGH! Bad ending to a bad day!
the other dogs was behind a fence, However, Pearl gets aggressive towards most dogs, (except at the dog park!) I always keep her leased while on neighborhood streets, cause of her aggression. I don't really get it because she was never abused or mistreated by people or other dogs. Pearls was not like this as a pup either. She is about 2 1/2. She is virtually perfect, except fot this! She is still loved beyond reason, by the way.

UGH! Bad ending to a bad day!
Lets forget about the day I had with the jerks I work with.
I took Pearl for a walk. She got away from me when she heard other dogs and ran to find them. She knows them, through the fence. Anyway sshe went in the neighbors yard, and was snarling at her dog. I did get her, but Pearl becomes possessed. I can't think of any other word to descibe it. She wants to rip the dog apart. Very few dogs will Pearl tolerate, on our street anyway. Well, I had her and she gets so upset, she twists and turns to get away. She bites at me and gets qquite angry My neighbor says, is she biting you? Well, yes cause she wants her way and wants to snarl at your dog. Well, I got her inside, and was really mad at her. She knows it too cause she is usually spoiled rotten.
I guess my question is, is this really normal? I have heard thst B's are not really social and are aggressive with otherdogs. Pearl sure is. Strange, she is so loving with the kids on the slock, and most of the adults, (meaning those people she knows, she loves)
What can I do?

Pearl and age.
I think Pearl was 65 weekas when I got her. She was eating regular dog food, soft. Her mom was done nurding, I could tell she wasn't interested. Both her parent were owned by the man I bought her from. They were well treated, and had no problem with me petting them or the pups.
Pearl lovers her family so much. She loves the neighbor kids, very much. We spent a lot of time with her, she is part of us now. I guess what I am saying is Pearl seems well ajusted. Is it the time we spent with her as a puppy? I don't know.
Another thing, Pearls is active, but not usually nutty. I do take her out sometimes 2 times a day.SHe has a dog door and other dogs surround us. So I guess she stays busy.
Pearl needs the activity, cause she is 31 pounds. Yikes! I love to hug her and she loves the attention, usually!
