Yes, so far so good. I forgot to mention that the new sliding door plus the new doggy door replacement will cost me AUS$1000.00. Gee I love my basenjis. Is there nothing I won't spend on them??? Getting back to Pepper, I have to agree that she is a smart dog. She worked out how to evade the water spray hazzard to headbang the doggy door and get inside. Who said basenjis weren't smart???

RE: Anybody want a Basenji????
Well. Pepper did it again. I went for a 9 hour drive in the country side and left the two dogs outside. When I arrived home, everything was fine. The two dogs were happy to see me, the doggy door was intact. The next day I locked them outside so that I could visit the local shoppng centre. I was away for 45 minutes. When I returned she had broken the doggy door and the two were happily waiting at the front door for me. Well, I am sick of it and have bitten the bullet. I have arranged to have a security screen door fitted to my rear door. If she breaks that I am going to have to find an area in my back yard where I can dig a basenji grave.

Warning - This could offend!
I apologize from the outset if anyone reading this is offended. Mister Two Dicks has been neutered, so he has no balls. But for the life of me he loves gnawing at where they used to be, and I don't mean for a few seconds. He goes on with it which feels for hours. It sounds like he is gnawing on an old bone. He especially loves to do it under the bedsheets in the very early morning, while I am trying to get my last few minutes of shut-eye before I have to drag myself out of bed. Is this common? Or is he just a deviant and I have to live with it?

RE: Basenji books
Hana wags her tail a lot when greeting us, it sort of unrolls out, whips around, curls back up, wiggles and waggles floppily…. I was surprise how much she unrolls it and rolls it back up though, I think depending on her mood. Her happy tail flopping around is the cutest thing ever !!
That sounds really cute. The more I hear about basenjis the more I think no two are the same. LOL

RE: Basenji books
Thank you Michye7994 and agilebasenji. I will definitely check out the books you suggested. And agilebasenji, thanks for letting me know about the previous posts. Teach me for not checking out the forum properly.

RE: Basenji books
Thank you all for the informative replies. I was surprised to hear so many have basenjis that wag their tails. I have never see that in any of mine. Benkura, I thought it was a problem in the transforming from hard copy to digital. I too find the misspellings a daunting way of reading a book. Thank you all for the suggestions and links too.

Basenji books
I have just started reading "The Basenji Revelation" by Simon Cleveland. I purposely bought the ebook because it mentioned a basenji in the title and I would like to read stories about basenjis. I was startled to read this sentence, "My little furry friend wagged his tail and whimpered from the confines of the cage." Have any of the members here seen their basenjis wag their tails? Both my dogs let their tails uncurl when they are in a really relaxed mood, but wag their tails??? Has anyone else read this book and if so, what did they think of the book (please don't tell me the ending as I am only 25% through it) and can some of the members suggest a basenji related book to read?

RE: I feel so ashamed
Cody will lick my (or my husband's) forehead and (Ewww) closed eyes in the morning when he's waking up between us. It is, to say the least, a very disconcerting way to start the day!
Awwww. Cody is just telling you that he loves you and your husband. LOL

RE: Basenji T-Shirts
You might like this link…http://www.cafepress.com.au/+basenji_mom_tee,103160866. There is a whole lot of funny basenji shirts at this website (more that I can afford) and before anyone suggests it, no I am not in any way connected with the company. If I were I would have more than three t-shirts. LOL

Basenji T-Shirts
What funny basenji related T-shirts do you have? I have three. They are: "REAL MEN LOVE BASENJIS", "If it's not a basenji, then it's just a dog":o, and "If you haven't got a basenji you may as well get a cat.":D

RE: Knut the polar bear
Thanks for the kind words, but I am not sad at all for my loss. I remember the wonderful times that I had with her and how lucky I was to have her in my life. As much as Pepper is a challenge, I probably will be saying the same about her when she finally goes (if I don't send her into the afterlife myself, that is).

Knut the polar bear
You are probably thinking what does Knut, the Berlin polar bear have with rainbow bridge. Although it may sound kind of odd, but watching his demise reminded me of my first basenji called Nymph, or Nimmy for short. I was watching this beautiful animal on the edge of his pool and his hind legs were twitching and then his front legs, and then all of a sudden, he fell into the pool to his ultimate death. Nimmy would sleep with me on my bed. She was a wonderful basenji and in a way spoiled it for me for all other basenjis as she was just perfect. I could take her for a walk in a park and I knew that as long as she could see me she would not wander off onto the roadway or elsewhere. If I whistled for her or gave her a shout, she would be beside me within seconds. Not the two basenjis I have now. Anyway, getting back to how Knut reminded me of Nimmy. The days leading up to having Nimmy put down, she started getting the leg trembles and then fall off the bed. She just didn't know where she was. The vet diagnosed her having a brain tumor just like I assume Knut's autopsy will reveal. She was a wonderful pet and I was very lucky to be introduced to the breed by this champion of a dog.

RE: Spayed my girl and now shes sick ..help!!
Heidi might be allergic to penicillin. It might be an idea to contact the breeder and find out about the medical history of Heidi's for-bearers. For a long time after I got Mister Two Dicks, he would throw up for what I though was no reason. I would give him dry food, he would throw up. I would give him canned food, he would throw up. I would give him beef bones, he would throw up. After much complaining to his breeder and others, it suddenly dawned on his breeder that Mister Two Dicks' grandfather was allergic to beef. Ever since, no beef, no throw ups. It could be that Heidi is allergic to something and it is hereditary. Just a thought.

RE: A Sad Day…....
Sorry to hear about Sonny. With his potential blindness, what will he really miss out? Will he miss out in your hugs? Will he miss out your love? Will he miss out barooing? Seems like he will still be the same basenji you loved before you heard the diagnosis.

I feel so ashamed
Hi. I feel so ashamed. I have to out my bitch. Pepper is a pillow licker. I wouldn't mind if she did it when I wasn't sleeping/laying on the pillow at the time. Is this a normal trait? Or do I have a dysfunctional basenji?

RE: Meet Kwame
I loved the picture of the three headed basenji. Very cute.

RE: Leaving pets alone
How funny was that, Debra. Didn't it become a little obvious when your dog kept on nudging you towards the front door and not wanting to come with you? LOL
