Should I add salmon oil?!

I have noticed a lot of dandruff on Kenji. Was wondering what you did to rid your Basenji of this?

Maybe that is it...the bedding from in his crate!

I know that Basenji's don't normally have a dog scent...but my puppy does He had a bath his first day home, and of course I haven't given him another one...but I was wondering if this just goes away when they get older!

Hang in there! We have had our 10 week old for 5 days, he now understands we aren't excited when he pees in the house. But when he goes outside or on the pad he gets great treats! It takes some time, but it will happen! They are very intelligent! We also have LOTS of carpet treatment ready at all times

@CrazySenji He is absolutely adorable! He is the SWEETEST dog I have ever met! He just loves all of the attention from the girls!

Yesterday we picked up our (almost) 10 week old Basenji named Kenji! He is a Meisterhaus puppy! We couldn't be more proud! He is sweet, affectionate, and so, so intelligent. We had a long night as expected, but today he and I have spent the day together on the leash and learning his name. He's getting so comfortable! He has even gone potty outside twice! Otherwise he is using puppy pads in our restroom. We are so happy!

I hear "yelping" makes Basenji's more excited. I have had success in the past (not Basenji) offering a toy when they do that and giving a treat if they accept it. --I am sure the Basenji vets on here will have some answers for you! Hang in there! They grow out of it!

Yea....I have always trained my dogs to go outside only. But, maybe there is an advantage. We shall see!

But you still take him outside though right? And when will you take it away?

I'm sure I read somewhere that Basenji's should be trained to go outside only. I've always used a puppy pad for training. I just say someone else uses a litter box...

Thoughts? Process?

@CrazySenji Hahahaha...I thought you told me they are always crated lol...I can't wait to see the quirks our little man has!

Awwwww!!!! I just love your dogs hahaha! So how long have they not been crated when you are gone?

Do you feel the puppy teeth are sharper in comparison to other breeds? (German Shepards, Pit Bull, Boxer, or Pug) @Nancy-Berry

UPDATE******

When we were in the process of choosing our breeder I contacted several of his references!! One of them I was able to stay in contact with. He emailed me last night and answered all of my questions! Our breeder will determine at about 5-8 weeks which pups go to which home. He does that based on personality of the pup and of our families lifestyle and personality. He is watching each one closely to pair them up with their new home. This is the reason I haven't heard if our puppy is born yet, because he doesn't know! LOL..understanding that process has helped a TON!

This is what I love the most about the Basenji Family, everyone is so helpful! I can't wait to keep you all updated! Until then, help feed my anxiety by posting some more pics of your b's!

Nancy I agree 100% I believe that all basenji's are beautiful and handsome! I know certain dogs are picked for show because of different reasons (which I am learning). I think like you said the hardest thing for me has been the wait! Lol!
