  • WANTED: Basenji Puppy in the UK
    N Nicola
    13 Jan 2012, 21:12

    If your possible future puppy is to be a family pet and family pet only, I don't understand why having endorsements on the registration matters to you. Why does it? Do you plan to breed without the breeder etc knowing? Do you plan to cross breed it? If so, why? (Although I have my own guesses there). I'm just curious really.

    If it was me, I would be really pleased the breeder had endorsements on their pups and vetted potential homes and people very carefully. If only more breeders did so.

    Too many people breeding too many dogs from unhealth-tested, unregistered and, quite frankly, unsuitable dogs whether that be in temperament or otherwise. And don't even get me started on cross-breeding purely to make a few quid and supply the pet market with thier "designer dogs" with ridiculous names. Believe it or not, they aren't new or rare breeds, they are mongrels! Loads of them in rescues everywhere.

    Don't get me wrong, I love my crosses - I have a lovely one - but they will always be rescues.

    How long have you wanted a Basenji for?

    I've been longing for a Basenji for a few years now but the time and situation isn't right, so I get my 'fix' from other peoples just now, as mad as that sounds!

    @Patty:

    Can we vote twice? Roxy deserves it.

    Unfortunately I don't think we're able to vote twice on the same computer…..but you can vote on different ones I think!

    @Patty:

    I've just voted - I only got back from Crufts today. It was such a pleasure to meet her - she is a lovely girl and didn't she look great beside Miggy!?

    Thank you - she is lovely, but then I'm biased of course!

    Yes, she did look great! She fits in well with the B's, doesn't she?! :)

    Thank you all for voting for my lovely Roxy! Much appreciated. :)

    Voting was extended for another week, so voting now closes THIS Monday, so there's still time to vote if you haven't done so already! :D

    My special little girl has been shortlised for a chance to win Pet Factor 2011! :)

    I would be really grateful if you would vote for her, please, as she really does deserve to win as she has come such a long way and really is a remarkable dog!

    Also, she will be at Crufts on Saturday and Sunday as part of Pets As Therapy if you would like to meet her!

    Here is the link:

  • Roxy is being DNA tested

    25 May 2010, 19:42

    @moetmum:

    Nicola has posted on FB. Vicky will be able to update you with the results if Nicola doesn't get back. It wasn't very convincing results for any of the dogs that were tested, the general conclusion was don't waste your money.

    Yes, like you say, Gerry, the other results were a bit ridiculous and it isn't worth spending any money on!

    @Patty:

    Nicola - Have you had Roxy's DNA results yet?

    I love the pictures of her on Facebook at the Scotland meet up - she certainly has the Basenjis play bow to a T!

    Hi Patty,

    Sorry for not getting back to you sooner!

    According to the results but Wisdom Panel Insights, Roxy is…..

    Significant Russell Terrier (presumably Parsons?) x Australian Shepherd x minimal German Shepherd (but not enough to account for Roxy as an individual dog). :confused:

    Somehow, I think not! I really don't believe Roxy has any sort of significan terrier in her. She really isn't bright enough to be a terrier! ;)

    The guy from the company said the test is 'about' 90% accurate although he wasn't sure exactly. What is the point then? :confused: I'm really glad I didn't waste my money on it!

    When I question him more on the fact that I still really think she is a Basenji cross, he then got his laptop out and pulled up some charts to show me that Basenji was in her, but again, not enough to show in her. Even less than the GSD. Hmmmm! Vicki suggested that maybe he just made that up to pacify me a bit? Who knows!

    Roxy is what she always has been to me! :D

    I now think this test is a money making scam, to be honest. I haven't heard many good reports about it at all!

    Oooh, excellent, Jess! I can't wait to see Maya again! :D I'm bringing my granpa along to meet her too! He's coming with us now to entertain Roxy as she'll get bored being there all day and not doing anything! :rolleyes:

    Had to laugh when Lauren got out the sausages (a word you can't say or even spell in this house as they KNOW), it was like feeding a pack of wild dogs! :eek: Occasionally one of them sat still for a minute…no, wait....a second! :rolleyes: :D

    I had such a lovely, lovely time, as did my two. Thanks for letting me join you all. :)

    Poor Belle! I can imagine her refusal! ;)
