  • My First Foster
    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    Yesterday I got my first BRAT foster, Duke, who is super sweet. He is fitting in great and Piper is absolutely in love with him, poor Duke never gets a minute of peace because Piper is always trying to instigate play. She just runs up and smacks him in the face with her paw and runs away trying to get him to chase her, but Duke does not seem to mind and appears to be having a good time with her. He is still not completely comfortable here and will probably still take a little while before he really relaxes and settles in, but we have not had any real problems or major disagreements yet so, so far so good.

  • The annual cost of owning a Dog
    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    I have the premier keepsafe collar and I've been happy with it. Piper doesn't wear a collar in the house, just because I prefer her not to wear one, and the chance of escape is pretty low. But I use the breakaway collar when we're at field trials and she's in an expen, mostly to give me a handle when I'm taking her out. And with all the bouncing around she does in the expen I'm nervous leaving a regular collar on her since she could get it caught. I won't walk her on it though because she could slip it since it's not a martingale but it works well for just putting a tag on her safely. And if she was going to wear a collar all the time in the house it would definitely be the breakaway collar.

    The daycare collar is a little different in that it won't release by itself, you have to actually open the velcro yourself to free the dog. But the advantage is that you can grab the collar anywhere and restrain the dog with it whereas with the breakaway you have to grab around the buckle or it will open. That's why it's made for a daycare or dog park type setting where the dog is under supervision.

    They are really good pictures.

    I'm curious where you got his collar, I haven't seen any like that before.

  • Sawyer
    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    Sawyer is an awesome little guy, and is a lot of fun to be around. He has a great personality, and Piper absolutely adores him. And to go along with his good looks he is going to be a great courser. I'm looking forward to this fall when I can see him again at some trials.

    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    No I can't make it, I don't think we're coursing again until the end of August unfortunately. But I hope you guys have a great time, I'm envious. Are you staying next week for the ASFA events as well?

  • MAHA AKC Trial
    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    This weekend was Piper's first AKC trial and boy did she make it memorable. There were I believe 12 basenjis total with 7 in open. On Saturday she won the open stake for a 5 point major! And then just to one up herself today she went BOB for another 5 point major and her final two runs today were in the middle of a down pour, but not even rain can stop her from chasing the bunny! More importantly we both had a blast, I only wish we could do this every weekend.

    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    Congrats!

    I love it when they are all pretty even and you get the great back and forth between them. Where one will take the lead for a while and then another will take over and they just keep going back and forth so that it is nearly impossible to pick a winner. It definitely makes it exciting to watch.

    But poor Nicky I am sure he wanted to be out there pretty badly, hopefully after he is healed he will have lots more opportunities to chase the bunnies.

  • Piper's First Trial
    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    @lvoss:

    Congrats! I got an email from Sue saying what a nice runner Piper is. She also said that Sawyer spent some quality time on your lap this weekend. I also heard that my little boy looks like he will be quite the courser and might be giving Piper a run for her money in a year.

    Yeah Sawyer is a great little guy. Piper really liked him and I had a lot of fun with him as well. I considered just putting him in the crate with Piper and bringing him home and hoping Sue wouldn't notice. And he definitely has plenty of lure drive, he'll be a force to be reckoned with next year. But as long as he stays as sweet as he is now I'll have no problem losing to him.

    Sin is also a great courser and really fast so I'm looking forward to lots more competition between him and Piper. So next year when Breeze and Sawyer will be running too it'll be a lot of fun and probably a toss up on any given weekend.

    @mauigirl:

    Yay congrats! We almost went to that one but then other plans sprung up. Will you course in SC ever or is that too far?

    Too bad you couldn't make it I would have liked to have met you. I might go to SC it's a little far but it's not that bad. Let me know next time you plan on coming up this way and I'll see if I can make it.

  • Piper's First Trial
    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    Piper was entered in her first field trial this weekend, an ASFA trial in NC, and she ran really well all weekend. She went BOB both days for 32 points towards her FCh and we both had a blast. So it was an all around great weekend!

  • Nicky's Daughter
    JarodkjvJ Jarodkjv

    I met Sawyer (Bella's brother in NC) this weekend and he is really sweet and very social. Piper took to him right away and really enjoyed playing with him. He's also lure crazy and is definitely going to be a great courser next year.

    Piper's tail is pretty loosely curled and she uncurls it all the time.

    I'm glad he is doing well after the surgery and I hope the next couple weeks of rest will fly by. I'm crossing my fingers the test results are all positve.
