Yeah, I thought so too, Ann. Think I might know someone who can foster, working on it.

Brindle in San Diego Shelter - look familiar?
This guy looks familiar - anyone else think he's been on BRAT site or somewhere lately? Beautiful basenji, hoping someone in our area can foster, or give him a forever home. Wish I had more room.

RE: Basenji-less in Austin, Texas
Sad story, Arwen. That must have been such a hard thing to go through.
Maybe Lily in Houston is looking for you…?

Oh, he's so pretty. Anyone contacted BRAT?

RE: R/W M Tampa FL craigslist
This one looks like some other recent scam posts, doesn't it? Who raises a thoughtfully-bred basenji and advertises odorless, danderless on craigslist?

RE: Meet Benji - our foster boy
What a beautiful boy. There's a sticky on this site I think with Sharron's tips for new rescues - image they would apply to fosters as well. They were invaluable when we got our second basenji.

RE: Help with newly adopted basenji!
What a sad outcome for that pup, but good to hear that you'll continue to love basenjis and basenji rescue. It's so hard to stop at one. :p Bet you'll be adding to your B family at some point, all the wiser.

RE: Help with newly adopted basenji!
Wondering too how this is going - just read through it this evening. Sorry for your sister, sorry for this basenji.
Wiser heads than mine have already given you insightful answers. All I can say is that we dealt with similar issues with our rescued boy. He suffers from fear aggression and I have lingering pain in my knee to this day from a bite shortly after we adopted him. (Not as bad as your sister's - I can only imagine how dealing with that situation in a contained space at 60 mph must have escalated things.) That aside, our guy is an absolute sweetheart, much more affectionate than our well-behaved girl. It took many, many slow months of gaining trust and training to get there, but if it works out it's worth it.
As others have said, whichever way your sister decides to go - if she's given the choice by AC - is understandable. If she ends up with this boy in her home she may be in for a long haul, but the payoff could be huge. Warm wishes to her - and to you for caring - however things end up.

RE: Missing 2 basenji females - Denver craigslist
Oh, such a sad story. My heart jumped when I read the craigslist post, and sank when I read on. Thoughts with the owner and the rest of the pack (beautiful group of pups).

RE: No Bite Collar for Keeping Stiches
Yes, dissolveable stitches would have been great, but that's not what Bongo has following removal of a growth on his front paw. Would the towel wrap collar work for that or could he still get to his paw? He's hating the cone, can't drink with it on and is generally miserable. Poor pup!

RE: R 2 better than 1
I'd agree with Mac, girls usually run things. Our two have their ups and downs, and Fiji makes him Bongo beg for cuddles but they're quite a team. I can't imagine not having two now.

Beautiful basenjis! They have lovely markings.

RE: Basenjis on Craigslist
Wow, can't believe so many beautiful basenjis on craigslist. Sending the Jacksonville link to friends in that area who have spent time with ours and know what they'd be getting themselves into.

Basenjis in Paris
We are off to Paris at the end of this week. Our 2 basenjis will be well cared for at home, but I know we'll miss them while we're gone. Do we have any basenjis in Paris on the forum? We'd love to meet up and see how our little curly tailed devils live en Francais.

RE: This left me speechless
It is good to hear this had a happy ending. I just got an email from a friend about a beautiful 8-year-old Vizsla looking for a new home. Reason? "Owners got a new puppy and can't take care of two dogs." WTH!?!?! Wonder if they have more than one child. If I was the older one I'd be getting nervous. Grrrrr.

RE: Found your dog today tearjerker
Our Bongo (then Donko) was left in the desert outside El Paso. He was chipped, so the shelter that got him when some kind soul found him and turned him in was able track his previous owner and let them know they had found their dog. "Oh, we don't want him back - we left him the desert because we think he'd be happier as a 'wild' dog," they said. How that is not a crime is beyond me.
It took him a long time to trust again. Three months after we got him we were frustrated and wondering if we'd made a huge mistake. He was destructive, skittish, drove his basenji "sister" crazy – almost like he was testing us. "If I (chew, destroy, taunt) will you abandon me too? Because if so, I don't want to get close to you." Of course, we can only guess at his thoughts.
He came within days of being PTS. Today, Bongo is a happy, healthy pup. He lights up my life and I like to think he thinks the same of us.
People who abandon their dogs should be sentenced to feel the same sense of abandonment, uncertainty about where their next meal or sip of water or caring touch are coming from.

RE: Basenji Intellegence
Love the link to the bomb-sniffing basenji article. I'd say we're safe until terrorists start tucking squirrels alongside the bombs.

RE: Senior Male in BC
Great resourcing! And, love the pics on the breeder's site. Basenjis on surfboards - gnarly!
